1 hour from he house. No early entry 9AM for us riff raff. Elks Lodge show and lighting is not so good. 5 screw 4 inch 44 magnum wearing smooth football targets in a small showcase. No price tag.. asked how much? $1500 so I ask to see it. He says the action has a catch in it on two cylinders. Yep it does.. the action also has a standard hammer and trigger and is checkered on the top of the frame and rear sight assembly. Someone put a 44 magnum barrel and cylinder assembly in a pre 27 frame. Figure it is catching because the hand does not fit well with the new cylinder. Handed it back. Oh well. Did buy 4 sets of factory k frame target stocks, 1 j frame smooth banana set, 2 non factory k target stocks, 1 4516 magazine and 21 Winchester, Remington, Browning, weatherby 22 rifle magazines from another vendor so the trip was not a total bust. In and out in less than an hour.

All I find is the same sellers who “know what they have “ and never sell anything at their inflated prices. My son went to a large show in Ft Worth yesterday. I awaited a call or text about things I might be interested in. But it never came. As usual he did buy some jerky.

I walked through a show with 1000 tables yesterday and didn't see anything as interesting as that 44 Mag. Did see lots of salsa, some "genuine" turquoise jewelry, even some womens clothes. There was a first year 6.5 inch 44 Magnum with box/tools but refinished although a factory refinish and so noted in the S&W letter. Priced at $3750, guy said he'd take $3k, it's probably still there. And there was a rubber band firing wooden gatling gun which could be had for only $850. Probably should have bought some of that home made salsa or fudge.

Last two smallish shows I have gone to have been total busts. I still go. Every once in a while you find something nice at a reasonable price plus, as noted, they can be very good places to pick up odds and ends. They are, however, at least in CA., a shadow of what they used to be.
