For some reason, I've been on a snubby kick recently. Just in the last few weeks, I've picked-up a 1983 model 60, S&W 442-2, Charter Arms in .45 Colt, and a Ruger SP 101 in 9mm. All used Pawn/Gun Shop finds.

I shot the CH last week and was pleased that it got through several cylinders without any issues. I've had two in .44 Special over the last 5 years that didn't work so well.

Today I took out the other three. I did fairly well with the model 60. I even put 5 round of Remington 125 grain Golder Saber +P through it without issue. Although the noise/and blast were ridiculous.

7 yards off hand. It shot pretty well with 158 gr SWC.

Having large hands, I wanted to see how I'd do with the boot grip left on the 442. I usually replace these with something that covers the back strap. I did OK but will move to a larger grip. And I got the same ridiculous blast/noise with a cylinder of the Golden Saber through this gun.

The biggest disappointment was the SP 101. Mostly due to the trigger. It just isn't good compared to the S&W's action. I have an LCR in .38 which has a much better trigger. I also noticed the cases were a little hard to load and extract from the cylinder using the moon clips. But this was all reloads that may have brass that is out of spec from countless use. But I also noticed some issues cycling the action. Possibly caused by rounds not fully seated against the cylinder? I'll have to take it back out with some factory ammo.

Overall just a good day of shooting these little guns.

This group is one I shot with a friends SP101 many years ago. He was also having trouble with his gun. I should have bought it from him while he was mad at it.

Wow, that's impressive. I've pretty much always sucked with snubbies, but never really took the time to get good with them. And having large hands with long fingers never helped with these small guns.

I think what started this snubby fascination for me was watching Paul Harrell on You tube shooting good groups with J frames at 25 yards, that I couldn't shoot at 5 yards. :(

When I was a Combat Weapons Instructor working with the Navy, I qualified with a 2 inch Chief on their Ribbons Course. 25 & 15 yards. I fired a 240/240 and was classed a Distinguished Expert. can't wear their ribbon but I rate it.

Still have some and some are gone. Need to update the picture. I do not know why, but I like snubbies.

My little 5-shooters are all either .38 Spcl. or 9mm. I agree with trying some factory ammo in your 9mm. I've had my 9mm SP101 for years. It works perfectly with any and all factory 9mm I've tried, to include NATO, +P, +P+, etc. My S&W 940 on the other hand is likely to demonstrate very sticky extraction with anything other than standard pressure ammo..

There's a Charter Arms snub in .45 Colt at a pawn shop about 15 minutes away from me that I am trying VERY hard to resist.

Nice pick-ups on all.

I bought mine just because I thought it was neat being .45 Colt, and not the regular .44 Special. And it working correctly also made me happy. Although the trigger certainly isn't an S&W.

I just got a bodyguard with the CT laser.... I am amazed at how accurate it is with that sub 2"barrel.

This is a snubbie, but definitely not a J-Frame. It is a Colt New Service in .45 Colt. Shot this today while adjusting the sights. Still needs a bit of tweaking......

To keep up with my obsession of snubs, I found this like new 642 today for under $500 at a local shop. They had so many options of snubby Rugers, Kimbers, and S&W's, my head was spinning. I figured this PC gun was the best deal.

Up dated picture of the "snubbies". The lower two are both J frames, a Model 60-7Ladysmith in .38 Special and a Model 30-1 in .32 S&W Long (soon to be an .32 H&R Magnum).

The upper two are as snubbie as you can get for their frames. The N Frame is a Model 27-2 with a 3.5 inch barrel. The Colt is a New Service in .45 Colt that somewhere someone shortened the barrel to 2 inches.
