500 Magnum Issue

Well after 5,000 rounds out of my 500 magnum an issue has come up... It will strike the primer on the rounds and dent the primer but not cause a discharge. This will happen 30% out of a 20 round box.

Would this be a warranty covered issue or would it be on my dime?

Perhaps it's developed some end shake on the cylinder? Regardless, it should be under warranty.

S&W has a lifetime warranty, call Customer Service, they'll probably issue you a UPS call tag. Send it in, they'll take good care of you. Glad you haven't had any issues with hangfires.

5000 rds!!!??? Some serious shooting with the big boomer, you're well ahead of me but I'm not competing with you or anyone else. Don

Have you checked to make sure mainspring tension screw is still tight?

If you have endshake enough for this problem the cylinder would move forward and back over .002. Measure gap from cylinder to barrel with cylinder held back, then with cylinder held forward using feeler gauges.
