500 S&W 6.5" Barrel

Just picked up my 500, first one I have owned. I have a question regarding the porting on the barrel. Is this a compensator or porting?

Does this effect what I can shoot in the gun? Is there anything I should be aware of regarding the porting?

Like bcc said post pics, but if I remember correctly the 6.5 only came with the compensators. I could be totally wrong though. Anyway, an easy way to tell is if it's a compensator the metal used had a slightly different apperance. And it has a small Allen key nut under the compensator while looking at it in The front.
But as to the porting or compensators, just know that it's LOUD!! And by loud I mean the whole range will heard your gun over others lol.
