Hi Folks

I recently obtained a 52-1 in excellent condition. A friend of mine told me that the 52-1 ejectors are noted for breakage and that no parts are available for this gun anymore. Any thoughts or comments

Thanks and Have a happy fourth

I think it is true that you cant get the part anymore. As far as the part being prone to breaking.....I truly believe this is one of those old wive's tales that become accepted as truth. All I can say is that my 52-1 has seen a hell of a lot of shooting. Originally inherited it from my Dad who was an active 2700 shooter, and I have been using it for the same shooting competitions during the last 15 years.

I know this is just one person's experience but, I wouldn't worry....go ahead and enjoy your gun.

Thanks GCM

I will enjoy this gun

Thanks for input

It is the extractor (not the ejector) that is prone to breakage. That's the reason that they came out with the 52-2 (different extractor). But the situation remains the same: S&W has no repair parts for 52-1 and finding an extractor in the used parts marketplace is an exercise in futility. It is my understanding that the breakage was typically a result of placing a single round in the chamber and dropping the slide. If you feed all your rounds through the magazine it is unlikely that you'll have a problem.
