Condition???

Only you can answer the tough questions. I don't think I could have been as strong especially since it was a 3". But hey, if not for choices, what else would we have to kick ourselves about later on............

As one of the more verbose sages on this site posted on another thread:

" ....your suppressed and ever-mounting regret will eventually lead you to do something even stupider."

...shoulda snagged it. -S2

I would have bought it. If I did not have the money I would have atleast put some down on it. They are very very hard to come by.

I gotta go with the crowd. S&W ain't making any more and 547s ain't getting any cheaper.

I think you did the right thing. What good is a 9mm revolver that can NOT use moonclips? You can get a Model 10 that looks just like that and does everything better.

There is always some clothplate... :D

Actually, I'll join Dave, just so he'll have company. 547s are interesting from a technical perspective, but I am not sure what a K-frame 9mm is supposed to do that a Model 10 won't do just as well. And $775 is a lot - probably enough to buy two Model 10s, or maybe a 10 and a 13.

Still, they are... an interesting curiosity... :o

It may seem like a lot of money, but depending upon the condition, I just might go for it. If you do buy it, be sure to post photos.

If You wanted the 3" 547, As I Do, & Had $800 to plop down for it & passes you'll probobly regret passing on it..
It seems there are always a couple for sale on Gunbroker so the you can look back 90 days & see what they sold for or maybe 5Wire can get us the stats on current priceing..
I Love my 4" M547 & have always wanted a 3"er to go with my current two 940 Snubbys..
9mm ammo always seems to be cheaper priced than 38 or 357 so that's one reason to go with one..
I know you could probobly buy a M10 & a M19 for what one cost, But as others said they aren't making anymore 547s.
Email me if you want the owners manual for the M547, I have it in PDF & JPG format on my hard drive..

You called?

I 'm a year behind on any newer prices and I've looked a few times without finding any. The 3-in 547 has seemed to have declined slowly in average price for a couple years with the 4-in SB rising somewhat during the same period. As was posted, the 4-in is the rarer gun. Maybe that explains it. Neither is showing up very often.

My track:

Smith & Wesson 547 3" RB Revolver in 9 mm. Bluebook of Gun Values (30th Edition) indicates between $675 in 98% condition and $775 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 40 recorded prices for this model gun from $500 to $999 over a period of 5 Yrs 11 Mos ending May 7, 2008. The average price as of that date was $749. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights, all represented as 95% or better, no distinction for engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $317.

Here's how the data I have charts out. I'm guessing the trend to be right around $700 for an average 3-in 547.

Here's the one I had, with Hogue Bantams to save my knuckles (I kept the regular stocks, of course, and sold them with the gun a couple years ago).
