Since I passed on the 686-5 3" model, I have since found a 586 L-Comp model available. It is about 95% (probably a low estimate), and it comes with the box, moon clips, and paperwork. What do you guys think that gun is worth?

Don't see enough of these to give an estimate.
That's not the answer you're looking for but it will push you to the top. Maybe some of the guys that have these will respond.

I saw one at Cabella's this afternoon with $1050.00 on the tag, but I'd say $800 is closer to gunbroker influenced non holiday shopping reality.
I feel like the porting making it non IDPA legal tends to artificially deflate the price.

I sold mine here earlier this year for around $700, it had a couple of minor mods and had been refinished. They're nice guns but that satin blue/black looks cheesy to me. Anyway, I'd say $700-$800 range, less than that is bonus.

If you can purchase it in the $800 dollar range in that condition you are doing good. I really like mine and have had it a long time.

If you like it and can buy it at what YOU think is a good price then go for it. Shoot it and enjoy it for years to come.

Personally I have never let an "IDPA rule" affect a price or make a purchase decision for me.

While IDPA is a blast and does have a fair number of shooters I can't believe there are enough members of IDPA in comparison to the gun buying public to affect the price of any gun. This is especially true for revolvers as *incredibly few* people shoot revolvers in IDPA.

Now, if you're planning to shoot the gun in IDPA I'd hope IDPA rules affect your (non-financial) decisions in your purchase. Be foolish otherwise.

I got a used one a while back from a member here. Very pleased with it and it is close to my favorite L-frame now. If it was my daily carry gun and I wanted the practice of IDPA shooting I'd just pay the match fee, shoot it and let them dis-qualify me. I could care less who wins a silly cup or ribbon. Too many of IDPAs rules are impractical and bad tactics anyway.

As for value, I got my L-comp for a price I was willing to pay. I didn't need any other justification or approval. (smile)

I don't need approval from anyone to purchase it either but I do have to justify the purchase to myself. 3" 586/686s are hard to find, but not too sure the $1000+ price the guy wants.

I think my search for a 3" 13/65/586/686 will continue.

Thank you everyone for your help.

It all depends if were are talking about a prelock 586 L-comp than yes it is a steal, if it is the later version with the internal lock than 800 should be the going rate.

It is a prelock model, but the asking price is over $1000. Don't think it is worth that after reading everything here.

I have a lock model that I paid just under $1000 for new. It is worth every penny to me. Great shooter, nice action, 7 rounds of .357, worthless night sights that I painted red. Love the gun and could care less about the lock. Easily the last revolver I would ever part with.

Unless you find a seller who doesn't know what he has, I seriously doubt you will see a pre lock 586-5 L-comp for less than $1000. I doubt a beater pre lock L-comp would sell for less than $1K.

Just weren't many of them made. Regards 18DAI
