586 takes on ugly stick...and looses. A rescue story.

Fords....for 300.00 BUCKS they can work Magic, or just fine blast it flat and park it.

Probably would only invest my time and some lubricant and cleaning products and be proud of it. You are not likely to win any beauty contests, but if the gun is technically sound, putting 357 rounds on target is nothing to sneeze at. If you restore or refinish, it will be labor of love, you will not likely get your money back. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Glad that it will be maintained better in the future.

What caused the finish lost? I f it was a fire and high heat it might not be metalurgically sound. Er

0000 Steal Wool and about 10 coats of Brownell's Oxpho Blue to get the rust out and darken it up a bit. Put a thin coat of Rem Oil or Break Free on it and it's the perfect truck gun. Did that with an import Model 19 and it works just fine.

I'd get that 586 done in a matte bead blast blue, or parkerize it. Then I'd shoot the snot out of it.

Nice sixgun. Good luck! Regards 18DAI

Clean it up, throw some cold blue in its general direction, replace those God awful grips and shoot it till the cows come home. ;)

I would have grabbed that in a minute. Great find and I would just clean then oil it and have fun at the range. Congrats!
