586 vs 686

According to the SCSW 3rd, some M686s were available in midnight black stainless. These are listed under the variations on page 270. Don't have any idea if the factory would change a standard stainless to midnight black or not.

A google search brought up this 586.

With this rail installation the open sights are usable, with the sight off, of course.

This guns seems to have had a change to the finish color.

Color options? I must say I am intrigued.

So, if I find a 586, I could have a the holes for a rail drilled and tapped, and then have a cerakote finish applied. Or is this something I should not do?

In case you can't tell, I tend to come up with strange ideas.

I recently purchased a 686 Plus as I like the stainless. But the 586 is beautiful too. Damn, I may have to make another purchase.
