Working on restoring a 5906 - found these under the grips.

Any ideas? Look familiar?

I do not know any backstory of the gun.

Serial number starts with TZV

How does one reach out to find info on the serial number? I know that won't probably tell me anything about the number under the grips but maybe!

When I first looked at it, I thought it might be a date as in 17/08/1996 Day/Month/Year. But then I remembered that the US turns the Day and Month about as in Month/Day/Year.

Email [email protected] with the model number or description and serial number and they will provide you with a shipping/manufacturing date. Not as informative as a letter, but it will at least tell you the age of the gun and who it was originally shipped to. I've used them several time.

Evidence number under the grips? That's a very kind way to do it!
Roger that and not typical. I don't think most officers/agencies would remove the grips to put a case number on it. They used to put on with an engraving pen or scratch it in with a pocket knife in the middle of an area that any open space. Used to drive me crazy. I have seen more nice guns ruined with gosh awful numbers scratched in them. I refused to do that and finally got my agency to stop that old school practice. We started putting them in a sealed evidence box sized specifically for handguns.
