I have a 5906 and need a holster. I have been doing a bit of looking from time to time at holsters when I am someplace that has them but NONE ever show that they will fit the 5906. And don't really want a one for all kinda thing, IE: UNCLE MIKE'S
I prefer a holster with belt loops and a thumbbreak snapstrap for right hand OWB carry as well as not ride high. I also prefer a holster that the muzzle does not protrude thru the bottom and is a lined leather or padded nylon, not a fan of kydex. I do daily carry my XD 5" 45 ACP in a Fobus paddle holster and manage it just fine.
It is time I get a holster as I today dropped off my XD 45 and 5906 to have nightsights installed.

I have a number of the GALCO CM244 (Combat Master) pancake design holsters for the 3rd gens. Fit well for the round trigger guard 5906, but don't meet your need for thumb-break. Still available in black or tan, I think, and not priced like custom holsters.

Well, I was going to post a link to a holster on ebay but I think that's a violation. There are some great used holsters to be found there. Some over priced junk too.

It occurred to me that I no longer have a holster for my 659. Mine was the shiny clarino leather duty holster, Don Hume I think. Anyhow, the shiny coating cracked, pealed and flaked off leaving it looking like you know what. It got pitched.

Clarino sucked. I carried black basketweave until I retired last August. Looked more professional and old school with my Model 65-1 and my issued Model 686-6. Yeah, I'm a dinosaur.

Clarino wasn't optional at that time and place. Later at another Dept we used basketweave until they went to the ballistic nylon stuff that looks terrible after it gets a little used. Cheaper I'm sure but it is lighter.

Thanks for the tips and links so far. I will continue to check them out as I get time and if anyone has any other suggestions for me to check into please post um up.

With the 5906 CHP trade ins being sold by Classic Firearms this could end up being a good starting point for those who buy one as well as helping me out. I want to thank everyone for their help in my quest.

I bought a black leather thumb-break Security Pro #4146 4046 on Ebay. It is unlined, but I only use it twice a year for qualification.

I have been kinda busy lately but I have been checking in on things and looking at some of the suggestions posted. My pistol has been with the gunsmith for a week now. They got the rear sight replaced but said the front sight wont budge just like my XD sights.
Hope they can get it done soon, I am ready to get them back and do some shooting in the backyard.

If you're willing to sacrifice the front sight, a 1/8 in end mill can be used to cut down through the center. This relieves the pressure on the dovetail and the rest will come out easily.

About the holster. If you're looking at concealed carry, I'd skip the safety strap. It's not unknown for those to get caught on the slide during a draw.

PM sent about Old School and the new Berns-Martin.

Nothing fancy have a padded nylon #4 Soft Armor for my 5906 bought LGS several years ago . Have carried my Shield in smaller size for a few years and has held up well.

I gotta think Desantis still makes one. I much prefer thumb break. We had to have that on our off duty boosters. Don’t see how an upward draw could snag the slide. Never did that once on thousands of draws and probably a dozen guns.

If you don't keep thumb pressure on the paddle, the snap can catch. Obviously, you learned to do this and you'e had a lot of practice. Not everyone has the practice. It's not as big an issue on duty type holsters and seems to be more of an issue for those with significant muffin tops/dunlaps. Ride height of the holster can also be an issue.

Well, I got a call yesterday at about 1530 that the sights were installed on both the XD and 5906. But was crazy busy trying to lay a 5x10 sticker on a 5x10 board so was not able to pick them up. Hopefully next week. I will definitely start doing some hard looking for the holster now. Thanks for all the help, to those that PM'ed me about one you are willing to let go I will be responding soon one way or another.
