6” 1911 Carry Options?

As per another thread, I've recently acquired a Dan Wesson 6" 10mm. I don't see this as a "concealed carry" option, more of a hunting or woods wandering piece.

I've got a HPG chest Kit Bag, and that suffices for now. But I think I want a bit more accessible carry option, like a Tanker or other chest rig.

I'm wondering what others may be using with similar arms.

Don't know abour a shoulder rig but one of the many Yaqui slide holsters would work.

6" 1911s are pretty big and heavy. Besides a chest rig, I like my Galco Alaskan, a backpack or wheelbarrow comes to mind.

I had at one time a chest carry rig for a 1911 and found that it was pretty uncomfortable on my shoulder while walking through the woods. My particular rig was basically a WWll style and the shoulder strap was fairly narrow which did dig into me. If one were to buy a new chest rig, I'd suggest getting one that had a wider shoulder strap that was either padded or allowed for a pad to be added. Being uncomfortable for many hours while walking is not fun!

My SIL has a DW Bruin that he carries in a MTR Custom Leather Alaskan chest holster while fishing in Alaska.

I remember the model name, Bruin, because he got it just for bears. He gives them a lot of respect!

I've had good luck with the Gunfighter's Inc. Kenai holster, but only with 5" guns...

I'm going to go off the reservation and suggest a drop holster like a cowboy rig and a good, wide belt. I made a toe loop kind of thing for a Glock 21 that rides about where my hand is at the height of the grip. Nice wide fold over at the top rides on my 1 3/4" leather belt. It rides like a dream. No tugging my pants down, not in the way, but right where I can grab it in an instant.

Similarly, I made an adapter that slides onto my belt and lets me hang my old Hunter Holster in about the same position with a 6" 686. Same result.

It always come back to a good belt, it seems.

Have got three 6" 1911s and prefer the Tanker/bandolier style either over or under a coat depending on the weather or what I'm doing.

The Tanker is a M7 type I bought off Amazon for about $40. Leather is very good and the M7 unlike the M3 has a belly strap to keep the gun from moving. The M3, as made by EPS and Desantis only has a belt loop hold down.

The other holster is a USA/very well made nylon bandolier style off ebay...about $30. I usually use that one while hunting...

Simply Rugged also has the Cuda that is a belt holster...

I absolutely LOVE 1911's and my Colt's are my favorite competition guns, target guns and shooting guns. When in my late 20's I did try to carry a Gov't model concealed and that lasted all of two weeks. I could not walk more than 10 feet without constantly hiking up my pants - lol.

IMHO a 1911 can be carried on a duty belt most comfortably but that is not for civilian CCW. While 1911's are incredible guns and still quite popular with the shooting public, I find they make terrible CCW, EDC guns - at least for me.

FYI, I am aligned that for most carry option, the key is a good belt. I've carried both 5" and 3" 1911s in pancake style holsters a lot. Always with a well made gun belt from Ken Null.

That said, I really need to take some measurements and put on the correct front sight. The pistol has an RMR installed with a co-witness rear sight. But the front sight is the factory Dan Wesson fiber optic. I need to do some careful iron sight shooting and calculate the correct front sight height before ordering some leather, as I think it's gonna grow a bit.
