I'm wondering how many of us obviously astute, handsome and intelligent connoisseurs of good things in small packages primarily use our 60-10s as companion pieces to a rifle or shotgun when hunting, or primarily for solo carry as self defense pieces (either woods carry, like hiking or strolling in the city park, or both). What are your preferred loads for your activities?

One of the joys of being out in the woods is not having to conceal my sidearm, so I usually go for a larger frame with a longer barrel.

N-frames need love, too!

I usually carry concealed when shoping, and I carry a SW mod 60 .357 cal.
My other carry is my trusted and faithful P-11 Kel-Tec 9mm.
Both are old carry pieces that I retired with.
I once in a while during Winter will carry my old office duty S&W mod 10 with a 3"bbl.
In the car, my old SW40C 40 cal is there ready. This pistol was the pistol
that Glock sued S&W and won, almost bankrupting S&W.
The SW40C is/was a GLOCK !!!

I do not limit myself to a specific engineering revision of any of the Smith and Wesson Models

There has been a Smith and Wesson J-frame, mostly a 2" Model 60 Chief's Special or 2" Model 60 Chief's Special Target, with me almost every day of my life since 1980

In addition to sometimes doing duty as a backup to a larger handgun, it has performed all of those tasks over the last almost 4 decades

The ammunition choice has changed over time as the strength of the firearms has increased and projectile construction has advanced.

Pretty much any of the hollow point Premium Self Defense loads from the Big ammunition companies will be more than satisfactory for any role except hunting backup.

For hunting backup, presuming you can handle it, a solid hard cast projectile at the highest power level your firearm is safe with.

I would also carry a 3" hunting as opposed to the 2" J-frame, but not every one has access to a 3"

And it depends how dangerous the game is, I might opt in for a larger cartridge

As best as possible you want to use the right tool for the job

Love my 60-10 as I recently post this on the 60-15 thread. Rides in truck till I need it, can be concealed, holstered very versatile!

I picked up my 60-10 while living in Alaska years ago, to be used as an "always on me" piece. This after much thinking about how easy it was to have a pleasant outing fishing or exploring four-wheeler trails turn into a survival situation. At that time, cell phone towers were only along the highways and in the cities, and sat phones weren't available to civilians. So if you got stranded you had to take care of yourself and it seemed logical that if one always had a small, accurate revolver with them, they could take game, signal, and protect themselves with careful shooting. First choice was a 651 that was incredibly accurate, but .22 WMR didn't fill me with confidence around bears. So the 60-10 was acquired and was a constant companion in Alaska. Factory loads were mostly Federal 200 grain cast core LBT style loads, which were pretty accurate, even to a couple of hundred yards busting rocks and chunks of ice on the beach during break up. Handloads are still in development; I'm looking forward to trying lighter weight cast slugs with large meplats to see how they do accuracy wise. I still use it for auxiliary carry when out with a long gun here in lower 48 land, but seldom for solo carry. Mostly cause I'm out of practice on rapid reloads and such.

I have carried my -10 alone or in concert with a long gun or larger caliber handgun.

I keep something larger lying in my lap when predator calling in case the invitee is bigger than expected. Even a medium size charging black bear makes that 357 look pretty small.

There's just something about a 44 strong side or cross-draw and a -10 in a shoulder holster that makes me feel dang nigh invincible. I call it my Doc Holliday load out

IMHO my 6-10 is just about the best general purpose "always with you" revolver you can own........ think 5 shot micro-686...... but light and handy. This from a guy with 3" Model 65s and 66 available. the -10 is just a bit smaller and lighter and takes up less belt space.

At the cabin my 60-10 "accessorizes'' well for just about any activity. I can have it on me if I'm using my chainsaw , cutting grass, or concealed for a trip to town.... or backing up either my CZ 452 FS in .22mag or my Ruger 77/357 on a walk in Penn's Woods.

I've even got a small size Bianchi X-15 vertical shoulder holster that fits it perfectly under a winter coat/jacket.

The 60-10 is the ultimate "Kit Gun" Snake shot to full bore .357s as needed.

Have most of you stuck with the factory grip? I tried the factory laminated target grip on mine and though it felt pretty darn good, I ended up going to the Uncle Mikes copy of Craig Spegel's boot grip, which fits me best of all. I just curl my little finger under the butt, just like when shooting a Colt SAA.
