I had a light strike problem, it was cured by replacing the extractor with a Volquartsen extractor.

My theory, and that is all it is, is when the bolt closes the original extractor does not move out of the eway on its ramp thereby stopping the bolt from full battery.

Try once more doing the following if comfortable. Disassemble the bolt assembly. Remove firing pin, clean and dry. Cleaning remainder (non-chlorinated brake cleaner spray is very good without residue. Make sure extractor is clean and dry. Everything dry and clean for this test. Assemble all and test. If all goes well, very lightly lube the bolt and keep going.

Some ammo runs dirtier than others. It takes only a smidge of grime combined with any lube to cause a light strike. I'm a luber for sure but I run the firing pin, the channel for it, extractor, dry. On .22s. There's always exceptions but this is not unusual at all in a nasty environment.

If it is a brand new gun why mess with it? Call SW and report the problem

I believe I have 400 rounds through it and oil in it. So I'll give it a try and a dry run.

Yes. Get a can of Brake Cleaner (from auto parts store) and thoroughly clean your bolt assy. Run it DRY. NO OIL. I mean that literally, NO OIL. That's how they run best. This isn't an AR-15.

I shoot competitively (rimfire challenge, steel challenge, etc) and reliability is essential. My Ruger 22/45s are run WET (what most would say is too wet) with a lube with water like viscosity and my 15-22s are run DRY.

The other issue can be dirty chambers. I use a .243 bore brush on a piece of cleaning rod spun by a variable speed drill motor. Clean only the chamber this way. Don't go down into the bore. You'll be amazed what comes out of a chamber you thought was clean...

EDIT: Just a side question. Anybody try the titanium "Fire Starter" firing pin from tandemkross?

Yes. I put one in one of my 15-22s after it broke its second factory pin. At the time I was told by S&W customer service that they were out of stock on firing pins, so I looked elsewhere. The tandemkross pin works well. Haven't fired more than a few hundred rounds with it yet, but so far it has been terrific.
