Unlike the hanging pig a perp is able to move around so his weapon could be cutting air not flesh. Also it is said never throw your knife so I am guessing the same would apply with this big monster knife like weapon.
If the perp gets in close this weapon is possibly of no defense. A knife could be a much better weapon. Also a trigger can be squeezed a lot faster than this can be swung for followup strikes. It is a very dangerous weapon for sure though.

Growing up with flood irrigation it was unusual to see a teen without a shovel in a farming area. A friends older brother told us he was sure he could kill a man with a shovel. We started practicing throwing them and most of us could stick a shovel in a tree or a post at 15 -20 feet. That doesn't even allow for swinging, jabbing, batting and smacking. How many of us are really aware what normal items could be used as weapons?

I am going against my maxim to not post anything that resembles 'mall ninja', but were it an edged weapon, you could do worse than a samurai sword. Real ones are not only art, but in lieu of having a firearm for defense, I don't know if you could ask for a better blade.
