617-6 Factory Defect

What did you find to be the difference in accuracy after you redid the crown? Hopefully there was a vast difference.

Check the smoke deposits on the crown after you've fired a number of rounds and see that all the lines are consistent around the circumference, if not get your tool out and re-do it.

The 10 shot groups at 25 yards (with my forearms resting on a picnic table) went from about quarter sized to a raggedy Mickey Mouse looking hole that I could cover with a dime and the center of the group moved about an inch up and left (but I did have the red dot off in between to bead blast the frame and cylinder). I'm running an 8 moa dot that's bigger than the bullseye at 25 yards. I suspect the groups could be even better with a smaller dot, but I'll just be shooting steel targets with it and the smallest one is 8" at 15 yards so I'm pretty happy with it as it is.

I just started doing some local steel challenge shoots with my 617. Any feedback on the new style Mass Driver hammer? Been eyeing it. Easy enough to drop in yourself? Also are you running the competition or duty spring? I'm not looking to be on the pointy tip of the spear competition wise. I just want to be able to shoot the junk 22 my semi-auto doesn't like.

The new mass driver hammer is the greatest thing in the world for a rimfire revolver. Installation is quick and easy, no fitting required on mine. I'm running the silver competition rebound spring. Double action trigger pull is now down to 6lbs 4oz (shortened the strain screw a bit) and still running 100% with every brand I've tried. (CCI, Aguila, Tippmann and Remington) single action is match grade at 1lb 4oz with no push off. I love showing up at a steel match with a revolver and watching the guys with the Volquartzen Scorpions roll their eyes...until the timer starts 🤣

That's me shooting OSR and RFPO at a match...came in first and third overall for the day. The revolver for that match was a 9 shot Taurus Tracker with an 11 lb DA trigger pull (I couldn't get it any lower without misfires). Hoping this 617 gets the times down into the RFPO ranges.

I was given the first Mass Drive Hammer for the public and did a lot of testing with it. It does what Apex Tactical says it will. You can get a great 6.5 pound double action trigger with it that is reliable with a variety of ammo.

I have mine set at 8 pounds so that I can set off any ammo I have in stock. It's working great. I've fired 2 Steel Challenge Matches and hundreds of practice rounds now with no problems at all.

It is a drop in fit, so, I think it's well worth the investment.
