Has anyone else had a cylinder that got harder and harder to open until it just stuck! I took the gun to my gun shop wher I bought it and he fixed it. The knurled knob on the extractor had loosened causing the cylinder to bind more an more as it loosened. My gun is brand new! This tight opening and closing which was only four or five times has left a scored line on the end where the pin slides past. Is the scored line normal? Should I ask for a new gun? My gun shop gives lifetime warranties when you buy from them. Still, should I demand a new gun? I waited 11 months for it and expected it to be perfect as it should have been. This is a factory error! What do you think?
Thanks for your input!

Sorry! Thanks, but no thanks! My gun is warranties for life! I will take my chances. S & W also warranties it for life so I should be pretty well covered! Thanks for your response!

Okiegtrider was kidding. There is nothing wrong with your gun. The ejector rod was loose -- now it's tight. Follow the forum -- that happens all the time (if it happens again, try some light or medium lock-tite). That's not a defect -- it was a loose screw. The line is normal - metal on metal contact. Absolutely nothing to be concerned about.

Enjoy!!

If ejector rod is damaged and your shop wont change it out S&W's lifetime warranty may cover it.
FYI S&W ejector rod threads were changed from RH thread to LH thread in the early 60's so that a loose ejector rod would not unscrew when fired.

Ahm, facts force me to disagree here: when in the middle of training in the range, my 686's rod got loose, I tightened as good as I could, however it went on loosening again, despite LH...

Cylinder stuck!

Thanks for all your replies! Very helpful. My gunsmith also said it is common. When he checked my gun out he did say I have a nice tight gun! Grigler
