617 no dash cylinder failure to rotate

I just got this revolver which had the rebound slide spring cut over a third of the way which I swapped for an original one, also placed a new mainspring to realize that the misfires where due to the cylinder not rotating on every trigger pull.

Whomever cut this spring also removed the hammer block claiming this was not needed?

So what would be the way to fix the cylinder issue, could I had just messed up when I reassembled the gun or should I go ahead and replace some parts due to use or abuse?

Was thinking of might as well replacing that hand spring plus adding and oversized hand as I plan to install a Mickuleck spring kit on it but then this is a rimfire so I wonder if that is a good idea?

Sir - Hand springs rarely go bad. Yours is probably off the pin. Note that the rimfires are very likely to misfire when using lighter mainsprings - they have a low tolerance for reduced power mainsprings. Don't be suprised if you get light hits.
 
An oversize hand won't prove of any benefit unless the extractor has enough wear that it's needed. IN addition, with an extractor with the drive lugs in good shape it will probably cause the action to tie up until it's properly fitted.

However, a new hand spring would probably be an excellent idea.

As for a reduced power spring set, it's both not needed and it will probably lead to problems with misfires.
 
Guys, thanks a lot, I appreciate the education a lot. I am a wannabe gunsmith with no training whatsoever, I suppose that part is quite clear and so far I had some luck with online tutorials and such, seems this place will be a great resource as well.

I sort of recall that the "hand" thing was loose when I reassembled the gun so most probably that spring is either loose or missing, I will take a look at it during the week and report back!

I am also keeping the original springs, gun shoots fine as is and a revolver with a normal trigger pull is perhaps a better practice tool.
 
Took a look at it today, the hand spring is missing so I am ordering one, thanks again.
 
Talk about being blind and ignorant, I ordered a new spring figuring the person that messed up with the revolver lost it. Could not find a tutorial and all I had as a resource was a schematic from Brownels, could not figure out how the spring fitted, tought it belonged at the top part.

It ended up flying into another planet while I tried to force it where it did not belong and then I became a bit "less ignorant", opened up another K frame and realized where the spring was to exist and many of you already realize it had been in place on the 617 all the time, just not in place to do it's job, well at least I did not have to order another $2 part and pay $5 shipping for it, I placed back the hand with the torsion spring in the right spot and now it is flawless.
