I decided to join the .45ACP revolver club, picked up this 625-3 5”, Model of 1989 off of GB. $900 plus fees. Swapped out the OEM Pach’s for these VZ boot grips… not decided yet. They feel great (small hands), sometimes I love how they look, sometimes I don’t. Time will tell. Worst case scenario, I’ll ditch them and then HAVE to get another RB N frame for them to go on lol! Anyway the gun itself is nice, locks up tight and nice trigger. Cleaned up nice after a bath. Looking forward to shooting it this week.

Also grabbed this 686-5 4” off the classifieds from a friendly fellow member. $825 shipped, as pictured. This one is also a nice example, but heck, who doesn’t love a 686 regardless? The 1st .357 I ever shot, many years ago, was a 4” 686 so it felt wrong that I didn’t own one. Fixed that. Any excuse to add another pre-lock, right?

Gonna have to update the family photo soon, always growing! Thanks for looking!

Update - Decided I don't like these VZ boot grips. They'd pry look GREAT if this were a 3" model... at 5" it just looks not proportioned. I have some other N frame square butt target grips that I mocked up on this RB, and they look and feel much nicer. So I just ordered a set of the black (SilverBlack) RB-SB conversion target grips, checkered w/ medallion from Altamont. I've had good luck with them in the past. Will post photos when those come in. Hopefully it isn't too big a deal to return to VZ. I'm sure I'll be out a shipping cost, but so goes life...

EDIT: To be clear, I'm not bashing VZ Grips at all. Own several pairs for various guns. The set I received is exactly what I ordered and they are finished excellently. They just don't look right on this gun, to me. I'm tempted to keep them, as you never know what you might pick up later... lol

Range Report

Got the 625-3 to the range today. Big Bore Awesome! I had a bunch of guns to play with, but my buddy and I just kept loading moon clips, couldn’t get enough. This example also fires fine without moon clips, if you don’t mind poking out the empties w/ a cleaning rod.

I was slightly surprised by the recoil. Nothing crazy, but certainly jumped more than I expected. Part of the fun.

Was also surprised at how easy it was to shoot accurately. Regardless of distance, we just kept tearing one ragged hole per cylinder on the target. It made us look good.

I see many rounds down barrel in the future.

My last M625-8 was pretty cool and accurate as well. Shot just as many .45Super's out of it as I did .45ACP's... She shot well with either with the exception of the crane screw and the cylinder release screw needed a touch of "Purple Loc-Tite" to the threads to keep them tight. Other than that I actually regret selling her to my brother. Who flipped her for a profit which p33d me off! I shoulda kept her and don't think I'll ever sell another firearm to another "Brother" ever again!
