625-3 4"

Are those Pachmayrs open-back?
Not sure if relevant, but I believe that S&W offered a program in the mid- to late-1990s that would convert a 5" 625 into a 4" barrel length. This was an effort to appease the folks shooting 625s in IDPA after the sport reduced the max barrel length. That's about all the details I know about it.
S&W did NOT offer a program to cut 5" down to 4"; BUT a company in Ohio named SDM Fabricating did do it for lots of people who wanted 4" 625s. I believe they are still in business and make replacement front sights with fiber optics. So many people apparently complained that S&W dropped the 5" 625s but has made a lot of 4s. USPSA revolver shooters all use 627s or 929s now.
From the inception of IDPA, the 5" ruled Revolver Division. A few years later the Founders decided that the 5" was not practical and limited it to 4" or less. Several IDPA competitors suddenly had division illegal guns to deal with.
Are those Pachmayrs open-back? I'm looking for something similar for my 625-8 5" (round butt). Got a pair of Grippers but they're closed back and feel a bit big for my hands.
