Are all 45 ACP revolvers marked .45 ACP on the barrel?

or could one marked ".45 of 1989" be chambered for .45 ACP?

CyborgWarrior,
The model 625 of 1989 only has stamped on the barrel" 45 CAL MODEL OF 1989" the 45acp has a shorter cylinder.. the 45's after the 1989 series are marked either:"45 ACP or 45 COLT CTG."

Okay, does yours chamber 45 LC?

CW, I didn't post the caliber because I thought the moon clip of .45 ACP cartridges answered the question.

These revolvers chambered one or the other, not both.

I just got a 625-4, 1989 ACP several weeks ago and was wondering if it would be possible and/or practical to have S&W make or fit a
.45 LC cylinder that I can change out to shoot either one? Anybody know if this is possible and or the approx. cost? Any info appreciated. Thanks, Cowford

I'm an ACP fan. I have a JM 625, but I like the action of the older models. I'm looking at a "model of 1989".

Winter is coming and it beats picking 45 casings out of the snow!!

It's been done but I don't think by the factory. The problem is the 45 Colt cylinder has to be as short as the .45 ACP one and then you have to watch the overall length of the .45 Colt cartridges.

I think the more practical conversion involves having a longer .45 Colt cylinder cut for .45ACP with moonclips.

The 45 colt cylinder is LONGER than the 45ACP cylinder...The problem with the 45Acp conversion to 45Colt is the ength of the 45 colt round..They convert 45 colt to 45acp because it meats all the peramiters for both rounds...
