625JM strain screw problem

I tried the iorn again to no avail held it on for about 12 minutes. Seemed like screw was not transfering the heat as screw was cool only a minute after having heat applied.

I will take it to a gunsmith Thursday and get a price to have it removed.

Update from gun smith.

They had a really hard time to get it out also. They got it to move with extreme force then had to take back behind walls to a different vice. They got it out and said there was a white power that came out as it was turning out. The screw has a crack in the head so I am wondering if that was what was helping to hold the screw in along with whatever the white power was. I am sure removing it made the crack worse or even created it but either way it is out. Already called Smith and they are sending a new screw so should have it in 7 to 10 days.

Not the best photo but here is the screw

I would also make sure the threads are clean and true before reassembly.

Stainless to stainless can gall quite easily. I've never had a problem but when you mention white powder that's the first thing that comes to mind. Either lube or blue Loctite will prevent this.

I would run a 8-32 tap through the hole. You can get a 8-32 gun screw at most Ace Hardware stores. Some guys go to allen head screws for this location. File to length, remove first couple threads.

Or wait for S&W

i don't need this revolver plenty of others to shoot till I get another screw.

I kept looking at your thread to see how it progressed. Glad you are on the road to 625 recovery! I really like my JM! Bob

Got the new screw from S&W yesterday. Tried the threads they were clean and screw went right in. I put the JM bang spring kit in last night and it did make a difference on the DA and I am pleased I installed it. Now to find some range time to try out the new spring kit.
