Hello, just looking for answers/opinions on a 627. It has 5 1/2" barrel and combat grips. Box is with it also. Good gun? Value?

I assume you are looking to buy one that you have found. They are great guns, basically the last of the .357s with checkered topstrap and barrel. It handles magnums like a k frame handles .38 specials. It is a heavy gun and probably not the best for backpacking, but a great range gun.

There were just over 5000 made. I have seen them priced in the $1300-1500 range. They are getting priced at the top of my affordability for a shooter type of gun, but the prices have more than doubled since I bought mine.

I really like the N frame full lug guns, have several and shoot a lot of rounds out of mine. If you like it, get it, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for the info. I forgot to mention that the cylinder is non-fluted. Asking price is 1200. Doesn't appear to have been fired much.

Mine is a very accurate revolver but then I've found all S&W .38s and .357s to group very well. It comes down to if you are going to carry it, how large and heavy a gun you like to target shoot with and if you'd benefit from fast moon clip reloads and the extra two chambers that you get in a newer one.

It is refreshing to see dash zero used correctly for a change. This is the only example of a dash zero that I am aware of. Usually members type -0 to save the few additional key strokes it takes to type no dash.

All I can say about price is if you pay too much you can still come out with a low cost per shot by firing it more. Let us know if you buy it.

That's a good deal. I can't wait to get mine back from the PC where it's receiving a new hammer stud.

Gun like that for me, would be a game gun and I wouldnt want the non fluted cylinder, just more mass and wear on the cylinder notches for no reason.

I am picking up a Brand New 627 To-morrow as its been my dream gun for years now. I am getting the 5" barreled model for mainly sport shooting. I already have new grips and 20 moonclips for it on hand. They are KSD grips which will look much better then the ugly Black and Blue currently coming on them. They are very ugly in my view. I don't think anyone can go wrong having one of these ever.

Here is a picture of it, along with a "King" I also bought. Thanks for the help.

Jeff, that Is a pair of great of terrific Revolvers right there. A buddy of mine has a King Cobra exactly like yours. I shot it the other night, it was impressive. It may be sacrilege to say it, but the King Cobra, since it is based off of the Trooper Mark V, is arguably better than a Python, because it is not as delicate.

Your 627 is a great find. The no dash 627's are very hard to come by. In a way, it is the ultimate transition gun, it is part Model 27 because of the fit/Finish and Top Strap checkering, but it is a full underlug modern revolver. It's really something. Congratulations to you for finding a couple of gems.

In this day and age, 1200 is a seriously good buy.
Here's mine

They are sweeeet!

You're correct, currently $1200 is a good buy for a 627-0, but the folks at today's show didn't think so; in fact, no one there had ever heard of one. I only brought it along to show a couple folks who know its story, and I wanted to show them the finished product. However, knowing how things can happen at shows, I told myself that I would bring it home unless someone offered me a minimum of $1600 - didn't really want to sell it, but...
It's sitting here in front of me. :D

Mine was $1550.00 here in Canada with a 10% discount.I shoot mostly 38spc. thru it so far but have run a box or two of 357 Blazer ammo thru it as well. Got a lot of spitback with actually very slightly cut my left cheek. Blazer has been the only ammo to do this so far. Big difference with the 38spl ammo running thru it. One handed shooting is fine even with it. Its the nicest looking gun I have ever owned.

Have the gun checked for Cylinder timing, it should not be doing that. Also make sure there is not any leading in the forcing cone area. Spray some cleaner there, let it sit and get in there with a brush and really clean it out.

But if it is shaving lead, there may be a timing issue.

A properly working gun will not do that.
