Just picked up a 627 v from a estate liquidation. It was a Winchester 94 collector but for some reason he had a 627 v-comp new in the box never fired. Was about to take it for its virgin shooting session when I noticed the serial number and figured I better make sure I'm not ruining something collectable. The empty casing in the little bag said test fired in 2011. Going to leave blank the first number and it's a low number. CSD_000. Anyone know what the first early production 627-5 v-comp number might be ? Thanks for any help I can get.

With rare exceptions, there are no records of the first production gun in the three letter/four digit SN era. The digits just roll along with the next letter sequence.

In this instance, the 627-5 was introduced in 2001 and this prefix is likely from 2011, so it is unlikely to have been an early production gun. So, I would say fire away without regrets.
