Just looked at my new Performance Center 627. In reading some threads about the Performance Center, my expectations were rather low. I wasn't disappointed.

The crown looks okay, but the forcing cone had burrs that would cut and the barrel is not in line with the frame. I can fix the forcing done. Can any competent gunsmith fix the barrel alignment, or should I send it off to a "specialist"?

I have bought a dozen S&W revolvers in the past year. I have had to send three of them back to S&W for warranty repair. Mainly timing issues.

You call S&W customer service (800) 331-0852. They take your info. Within 5 minutes they email you a 2nd Day Air Fedex shipping label on their account (they pay for shipping). You pack it up and drop it off at FedEx. Two to four weeks later they ship your gun directly back to you (once again on their dime).

The three I sent back, came back to me absolutely perfect. I cost me zip, nada, nothing. Just a little aggravation.

Definitely send it back to S&W and they will make it right.

It is unfortunate the warranty is now pretty much a standard part of the purchase process, but S&W Customer Service is top notch.

Thanks for the replies. I don't mind the expense (well, not really) of adjusting a brand new gun, but I hate the wait. Local gunsmiths are telling me it would be a couple of weeks to a couple of months to get the work done. From Harrishmasher's post, it seems a 25% return is good for quality control :(

Unfortunately it is higher than that. Of the 12 S&W revolvers I bought in the last year, only 6 were new. So it is more like 50%!
