Hi, I have one I like them..they are smooth shooting guns. The PC guns have a smooth trigger.

Hello I also have one. I do like it a lot. I shoot it in competition and I find using the moon clips can be a little bad for fast reloads. They are a little loose and move around quite a bit. so most competition shooters use shorter cases. but if you don't plan on using it for comp. then it is a fine revolver. here is a picture of mine with C-more red dot.

As I am not sure about this yet, as no one in my area has a 627 PC gun, could I get a definate answer.

I have heard that there is a recess cut in the cylinder for moon clips. Is this true? Do you have to use moon clips with this gun?

I bought both of my 5" 627s when they were introduced in 1997. I have been shooting them ever since then. They are the top revolvers in this family photo.

I love them. I love the 8 shot concept. I love the moon clips. I love the accuracy of the air gauged, match barrels. I love them so much that over the past 11 years, I have added to them. As you see in the photo, I have both of the blue 8 shot models 27s that were released in 2000 as well as the snubby. I also have three of the scandium framed model 327s. Plus I have added 5 of the 8 shot Registered Magnums in both blue and nickel that were released in 2007.

In total, I have more than a dozen of these fine 8 shot, 357 Magnum revolvers that the Performance Center has been producing for more than a decade now. Everyone that shoots them, loves them.

I have the 5" PC 627 and like it. Unfortunately, it is, last time I checked, not legal in either IPSC nor IDPA (well, you can use it in IPSC, but only in "Open" class which puts you up against full-on race-guns with optics, etc., so hopelessly outgunned) and that's kind of a bummer.....but probably also attests to how good a revolver it really is.

You can use them in ICORE and most steel challenges. Besides if you are a real revolver fan you will use it in ipsc and when you do beat one of those open guys (and it happens) they are really harassed.

I got caught in that as well. When I was shooting in USPSA, some of the local clubs would have a revolver only match from time to time. At the time I was using a stock 5" 629 and finished third two events in a row to guys shooting custom eight-shot, red-dotted, moon-clipped, N frame Smiths. When the 627PC was introduced I had to have one. It would finally be my time in the sun!

Well, by the time I could get my hands on one, tune it up, aquire leather gear, moon clips, work up loads, and get in some practice with it, everyone had banned it's use!

It is a great shooting gun.

I am admittedly a 625 man but I could sure see me "slippin' over the fence" for one of these

I've had more 627s than I can remember and most have come from the factory exceding all my expectations.

My newest one I bought this summer to replace one that I actually wore out. Timing was so bad that my gunsmith doubted he would fix it but he did and I was happy. While he was working on it I bought a spare. It was and is the best 627 I have ever seen.

I call it my 1 of 1000 like in the movie Winchester 76. Every once in a while one come out just perfect.

Trigger pull from the factory was under 7 lbs double action. Everything was nice and tight and it shoots great.

I use Hearthco mooms in it and recommend them. Get them from Dave Hearth at [email protected].

I like my 627PC. I bought it used and had to install Millett's because I couldn't zero the gun with the factory sights. It shoots great as do all of my Smith's.
colt_saa, that 4" blued 8-shot looks great.

I just purchased a PC 627 V-comp new from the factory... It was in terrible shape.
Hammer hit the frame.
action was rough and heavy
side plate had a nick
forcing cone had a large burr
Yoke barrel was poorly finished
Blue wasn't consistent

I mounted a JPoint shot it one day, sent it back.
S&W sent the gun back saying the could not get the sight off since it had loctite. Which is absolutely riduculous.

I was thinking of getting rid of the gun. Didn't want to deal with all the issues and certainly was not happy with S&W

I ended up spending a few day working the action, fixing the problems.

The gun now has a smooth 4lb trigger, runs great and is an absolute blast to shoot. I am very happy that I kept the revolver. I probably will shoot USPSA open and steel challenge with it

Would I get another, probably not a new one from the factory

I used a 625 for informal plates then bought a 627 from a club member that won it in our gun raffle. Its one of my favorate guns. Surprised when I first shot it figurin 8 holes in the cyl wouldn't be accurate. The 8 shots keep up with a 45 AUTO, if I can get the reload down pat. Larry

I understand why Smiths would be banned in competition. They must have been the best. That is nothing new NASCAR outlawed the Hemi engine and the wing cars in 1971. Because Ford and Chevy couldn't keep up with Chrysler.

You can shoot the 627 in production or even Revolver, but in Rev class you can only fire 6 shots before a reload

You can use it in IPSC Revolver Standard, if you fire no more than 6 shoots at the time between reloads.
