I got this gun from grab a gun today.It has "A" stamp under the top strap. What does this mean? The gun is new but the cylinder to barrel gap is over .012. I will send back to S&W. Did I get a furbished or altered gun? I am a number 1 , Smith & Wesson fan, but this one will have to be fixed.

I'm not certain but I was looking at California "approved pistol" list and I think A and B under the top strap has something to do with all their BS.

Yes JayHawk is right. The A stamp is part of the bovine excrement that the State of California makes law abiding gun owners wade through. Criminals of course don't have to worry about it.

Thanks for your response. I guess A means approved. Rich Cole sells Y beretta shotguns that had problems now are better than new ones. I have bought 2 over and under, one in a four barrel set.
