627 pro??

I've been looking for one of these guys (627 pro series) and can only find older threads about them nothing new. Are they still in production?? And what price do they fetch new?? I would guess $850 around there??

Nice! The only prices on them I have found have been off gun broker and from what I have seen for brand new there in the 780-950$ range but that's gun broker. msrp is 990 so I know for sure there out there for around 900$.

I recently got one in the Pacific Northwest for $850 new, but with only the 3 factory moonclips. They are still in production, but are not lying on dealers shelves, at least not here.
Am very happy with mine, shot it recently in a USPSA match & had a good time.

Current production MSRP is $999. Mine is 3 years old, bought new for $825. Great gun, makes me look like a better shot than I really am. My only S&W revolver. I don't use the moon clips.

I purchased a new one in November for $830.00 through a local gun shop. I've known the owner since we were kids (that was a long time ago) so I got a pretty good deal. I'd been looking for one to shoot in USPSA and steel for quite some time and was surprised when he found this one. They are out there but like Tanners Owner said they are not lying on dealers shelves. If you want one and can get it out the door for $850 I'd buy it. I've been having a GREAT TIME with mine and even beating some of the bottom feeders in competition.

I picked one up about two years ago. I don't remember exactly what I paid, probably around $750.

It's been a solid performer.

Had my 4" almost a year and love it. I like the moon clips as they make a reload much easier in 25-35 degree weather at the range.

How well do the 627 full moon clips function at rapid self-defense reload or less importantly competition speeds? I have experience with the 25 and 625 guns with truncated cone lead and remanufactured FMJ 45 ACP ammo. Specifics on thickness and type of brass would be appreciated. Relative reload speeds from competitors would be informative. Regular speed loaders in big bores, 41 Mag, 44 SPL, 44Mag, 45 Colt are within my experience but 38Spl/357 Mag reloads are seldom tried by me, which is terrible as they are occasionally carried as backup to a semiautomatic primary defense gun. I want to try carrying a 627 as my primary carry gun and get over my 40 caliber minimum prejudice. The 8 round speed loaders match the single stack Series 70 Colt or Ruger P90 I carried as a deputy back in the day with complete confidence, and the mid south really doesn't have nasty big bears, moose and similar cridders. My horses seldom need to be put down and I don't run cattle any more or get around mean stock. Gentleman rancher, that's me!

I can reload my 627 in competition with moon clips...shooting 38 special R/N bullets as fast as changing mags in my 1911. I've had no experience with the 625...it should be faster...fewer holes to fill and shorter in overall length.

Remington, Federal and Star line brass will need thicker moon clips (.025) Winchester brass will use thinner moons (.020).

I found my 627 to be addictive....Good Luck with yours !

Thanks for the rapid reply! I'm going to get stainless .025 full moon 8 shot clips for close to sixty dollars, a 10 pack of the cheapest stamped clips for twenty dollars and a demooner tool from Dillon's Blue Press. Too many options had me in brain freeze. Why the best milled ones were slightly cheaper than the stamped variety remains a mystery. Your reassurance that the long skinny 38 SPL/.357 Mag brass will feed as well as the shorter .45 ACP rounds in the S&W 625 or single stack 1911is appreciated. Starline or Remington brass will probably be my competition and SD loads respectively.

Check out TK Custom or Revolver Supply on line or call them for all your moonclip needs. They are more than willing to answer all your questions. I got the moonclip loader from Revolver Supply and mounted it on a small piece of Cherry wood to make it a little more convenient and used a golf club handle for a de-mooning tool...holds all 8 empty cases in the handle.
I've had good luck with Remington brass because that's what I have the most of.....but it's my understanding that some of the top shooters use Starline.
I can understand the "brain freeze"....mine is just starting to thaw out. It's been a real education.
