Well yesterday I was asking about the value of a 629-3 Classic with a 5" barrel. The gun had the original box, docs, tools and rubber hogues with silver medallions and extra grips. The 5 incher being slightly more rare, i figured the $750 he was asking was a good price. I met him today and here is what I got.

So the gun was wearing some nicely done imitation targets from over seas which are pictured, so i thought "cool". Then he points to his console and asked if i wanted the small round grips. He didnt like the way they looked. I took a peek in his truck and what he treated like ugly splinters were a very nice set of factory combats that he threw in with the gun. SCORE!

I paid more than that a year or two ago for a 5 inch 629-3 without the extra wood, box, or tools. I don't miss the box, but I sure wish I had a set of RB combats like you lucked into. Congratulations on scoring one of S&W's finest!

Congratulations! I would do that deal any day! Lucky you! Bob

S&W 629-3 Classic 44Mag 5" Bbl

Congratulations on that S&W 629-3 Classic 44Mag 5" Bbl
Revolver.

From what I see of your pictures that was a very good deal
and on top of it a 5" Barrel model. The 5" Bbl is a good
compromise between the unforgiving 3"-4" short barrels
and the 6-1/2" front heavy bbl. Will be a joy to carry.

You will enjoy that Revolver. Some day I hope to stumble
upon a 5" Bbl for my collection.

Congratulations

Thanks all. Its not everyday I run into a sweet deal. My biggest dilemma now is trying to figure out which one of my RB N frames I am going to put the combats on. I will have to look in my safe to see what I have in that configuration, but I think this gun and then a 5" 625-4 may be the only 2 I have left that dont have combats. All of my shorter barreled N frames already have them. Who knows, I may open my safe and find one I forgot about, but that usually doesnt happen.

Several years ago, I was salivating over buying a 5" 629 Classic DX and found one on GunBroker for $800; gun only, no extras. The lack of those extras had me thinking the price was too high but after considering how seldom one comes up for sale, I bit the proverbial bullet. As with most nice S&W revolvers, that 629-3 has become a good buy.

You got a real good deal as confirmed by the masses. :)

$750 would be a good deal for the gun alone, add the rest of the package and you did very, very well. I love my 629-4 5".

I know your personal grip application is what rules.
The only thing I can say is even that the Hogues are not the prettiest, they sure are practical in in shoot-ability. They take recoil very well on my 629-3.

Heck I'll give you $752 for it right now. That's $2 cash profit! :D

Great score friend. Really great score. You got one of the most sought after revolvers around for way less than they sell for usually. But hey I bought my 629-2 for $450 and it had less than 10 rounds through it at the time. So I know the feeling of getting a great deal on a great revolver. Feels OK I guess. ;)

And those early Hogues with the silver medallions are getting tough to find. They look so much better than the plain ones. I'm always looking to pick them up when I can.

Wow! Now that's a smoking deal! You are way in the money on this one with the combats thrown in. I would say you used up a bit of gun luck today :)

Okay, okay, great revolver, unbelievable deal but, this thread, IMO, is not complete until we see a photo of your acquisition wearing those COMBAT GRIPS!!!!

Please?

That is a great gun, made even better because you are in the great state of Texas. It is something you can enjoy for a lifetime. Beautiful. But please, put the wood grips on right now!
