629 Info needed

Can you fine gentlemen (& ladies) inform me about the 629 vs Mountain guns? Which one is better. The reason I ask is I saw a couple of used 629 in good condition at a local sporting goods store priced at $ 530 & $ 575. They both have 6 3/8" (?) barrel and have newer slanted forward cylinder release. The one for $530 had the transfer bar and no firing pin on the hammer. The one for $575 had the firing pin on the hammer. If you could sort of give me a "Idiot's guide to 629s" that would be helpful. I intend to carry it mostly on my property and take maybe a whitetail or two with it. I would like to stay with the .44 mag, since I have a Dan Wesson in .44 with a couple of barrels for it. Just would like some thing a little lighter and stainless. Just to fond of the Dan Wesson to carry it alot. Any info would be help full.

6 one way and half a dozen the other. I mean they are both nice guns and will be great for what you want'em for. Both prices are good also. Hold them both and see if one speaks to you. That's what I do. JMO.

Exactly so. I own a 629 (the one in my avatar) and have handled Mountains Guns, and the above statement is, in my opinion, correct.

The 629-2 and newer were to have stronger lockwork in them, they had the hammer mounted pin I believe through the -4s'. There is no advantage to either the frame mount or hammer mounted pin I can think of on the 629. The mountain guns only came with the lightweight 4" barrel and were made for carrying all day and hopefully not having to shoot.
