All other things being equal, and cost is the same, would you buy a pre lock 637 or a lock enhanced performance center 637?

I have several j frames, only 1 has the lock, but I have never had a issue with it and carry it frequently, so if it were me the lock wouldn't be part of the decision, how nice is the performance center enhancements over the standard model.

Between two relatively equal choices, I always choose the one without the lock.

There's nothing that the PC "tuned" 637 has that the regular 637 won't after some dry/live, perhaps a spring swap, and at the outermost likelihood, a little choice parts polishing by a good revolversmith -- and it won't have the lock. ;)

The "no lock" Model 637 is like finding a needle in the haystack...granted that it's NOS complete with the original factory box, paperwork and so on. Hence, I would definitely choose the "NL" 637 over the Perform Center version with the IL any day of the week. Also note that you can always get a trigger enhancement done to the NL 637. I think the standard model 637 is a sweet shooter for sure. I have one with the internal lock and I love it.

My J's are all No lock. I think I'd pretty much buy a lock only if the gun I really wanted simply isn't available any other way. (The Model 69 comes to mind.)

Just don't pay attention to the lock. That is what I do.

I like my 637 just fine; never noticed the lock after the first day or two.

I recently picked up a new 637. Let me add more info…..I can't remember how many j-frame airweight revolvers I have owned in the last 20 years or so
BUT every single one of them has had the failure of the "clear coat" . I have had 637's,638, and 642 models. They ALL failed. I still have one….bought it 21 years ago…..it is ugly, ugly, but it shoots….really shoots and I carry it in my left hand jeans pocket every day….I trust it. With my life. Now as few days ago I bought a brand new 637……let me just say it is PERFECT in just about every aspect…and the coating seems different…I cannot define how but it looks different and feels different ?..I am cautiously optimistic that it will hold up. Anyway, to end thisl long winded post, I carry the new one in my right hand jeans pocket…..two 637's …10 rounds of Remington FBI load plus p 157 grain. Soft lead semi wad cutter HP's. No reload. I am just an 86 year old , old fashioned fart!

Regular 37 for me. Dry fired until action was smooth. Grind off the hammer. It shoots sweet.

And those are the best grips ever! Big for pocket, but I have them on my 357 "woods J".

I pocket carry them. When I buy pants, I put holstered gun in the pocket and make sure I can grip and draw the gun. Wrangler Cargo Shorts and Jeans mostly until recently added some Duluth Cargo Shorts. I can walk around with gun in hand in the pocket. Works well for parking lots.

So, I decided I would rather have a Performance Center Enhanced with the lock than a no lock standard issue. For me, the biggest consideration in a revolver is the trigger action, and the PC i got is fabulous.

@Itcnav

Congrats with the purchase of a new Performance Center 637. I can understand the lure of a well done and amazing trigger job, as well as the other enchantments. Lastly, thank you for the follow-up... as I wondering what the outcome of your decision would be.

Best,
Data

Jared, I'm in Shelby County, TN, and have three 637-2 J-frames, all lightened up with titanium cylinders and converted to 9mm.
Clear coat has failed in all three, but I don't really care.
I wear cheap George brand khacki pants from Walmart because they have big pockets, and I also do the hand in pocket thing when in parking lots and at gas pumps. I'm coming up on 82 faster than I would wish.
