Product: Model 637 Enhanced Action

So, it comes w/wood basketweave stocks and the PC seal of approval. When they state action are they saying they went through the whole string from trigger to hammer including the sear?

Other than that is the rest, cyl gap, the same as the basic 37/637? I've seen them priced from 5 bills to 8 1/2. I'm speculating that the PC seal on the 637 distinguishes the enhanced action, but I'm not sure exactly what that entails.

Thanks in advance

Thanks Kenny. I'm in that neighborhood swapping sales tax for shipping & my FFL guy does me right. A couple of extra bucks won't break the bank. I'm just not sure how much hope I should place in the PC shield. I expect DA to be smooth & it would be nice if the trigger pull was a mite lighter as well. I was hoping dear ole mum night be able to squeeze off a few light rounds.

Of course I touched on cyl gap wondering if I was going to see .006-.009 or a .0025. Not sure if the gap falls under their version of action. W/fancy stocks I'm wishing they'd have come out w/2.5" brl they used on another. I think the extra 5/8" would've looked nice as well.

I wonder myself. S&W at least went to the trouble of placing the Performance Center badge on the side.

Interestingly enough if you go to TALO you don't see the 637, but it's listed as 637 Enhanced Action on the S&W site as a TALO w/no known MSRP.

Called S&W. CS claims every surface is polished to make the action buttery smooth. Yes, he sounded as if he was in a boiler room reading from a rebuttal sheet. So, I ask if the trigger pull is any lighter and he says just a bit as it already is about as low as it'll go/they'll manufacture.

Cylinder gap is merely industry standard anything from .004-.010. If they're going to badge the piece as PC they should tighten up the gap to .0025- .004. Four to six isn't bad. yet if I end up w/7-10 I'm not going to be a happy camper. I asked how much to change a brl and I'm told no quote w/o firearm being shipped there first.

I asked the guy at the gun store taking my CC if he thought they did anything besides slap the badge on the side. He tells me none of them at the store can detect a difference.

Sounds about right.

My two 36's & two 37's all have pretty nice trigger pulls, and all I've done to them is install a 13# rebound spring & polish the rebound slide & adjacent surfaces. Of curse, the newest is about 30 years old, so who knows how much shooting and dry-firing has smoothed things out?

I'll probably order some springs and see how far I can cheat the trigger pull. I'm not sure what # comes on the 637.

On a positive note my gunsmith/FFL guy says every enhanced action he's tried has been noticeably smoother than the
run of the mill pistol.

I'll wager compared to the 351C, 22wmr that it'll feel like buttah. Especially w/rimfire requiring more force for ignition.

"W.C. Wolff company offers reduced power rebound springs rated from 12 to 16 pounds. For reference, the factory rebound
spring is 18 pounds.

Hammer Springs (mainsprings)

•Reduced Power...: 8 Lb.
•Factory Standard.: 8.5 Lb.

Note: Models 317, 650, 651 have a 12lb rated hammer spring."

Only half a lb on the hammer, so it seems the rebound spring is where the majority of the savings is located. Also note that they offer a 1/2 heavier hammer in a 9lb.

I think the TALO Gunsmoke [I see 637-2 DA only listed on some sights. Lipsey's calls it the 637PC Gunsmoke. Might be an older model as it looks like the 642 w/Gunsmoke on the brl and waistband clip stock.] also has the PC enhanced action. DA only is going to be a bit of a long pull.
My guy had a consignment 351C that I picked up for comparison purchases. [Of course the 637 is a SA/DA. I'm
splitting my time w/it and the 351C which is DA only in 22 mag] Only 2-3 ounces lighter w/7 rnd 22 mag.
Which has the flash & decibels to easily disorient at close range.

Operator included.

I found the 14 oz 637 smoke w/bobbed hmr. Kinda confusing to me. I would like to know if the bobbed hmr is weighted more or has more mass to make up for the loss of the spur. [I note it's chrome plated] It would seem the easiest way to improve trg pull would be lighter springs w/heavier hammer.

"Special Features:
Polished Cylinder Flutes, Chrome Plated Bobbed Hammer, Hand Polished Chrome Plated Trigger, PC Tuned Action, Clip Grip, Gunsmoke Logo". Also comes listed w/msrp.

Oddly enough I never cared for the 1 7/8" offering and yet I've just purchased two. My lowly 637 only comes w/PC shield for enhanced action and a blue PC tag affixed to the trigger guard. As previously mentioned it has no such msrp.

Even w/o seeing the sidearm I again state my displeasure, considering it a travesty, that a revolver would go through the performance center and not have the cyl gap tightened up to a higher std than .004-.010.

I bought one yesterday used like new, $399. The gun might as well be brand new, and the trigger pull is definitely nicer than a base model. The hammer pull sounds and feels smoother. And the wood grips are outta sight. Definitely worth it if you're going to buy an ultralight .38

What's also cool is that this gun has very minimal markings. No "Airweight," no model no., just Smith and Wesson .38spl +p, performance center crest, and "SPFLD, MA" "S&W U.S.A"

Color me 'confused' here. We must be discussing 2 different 637 models. I have the 637 Gunsmoke/Wyatt Deep Cover model with the 'Hip Grip' knock-off. In fact, I have 2. My 'smith opines the rebound spring is lighter which, in effect, serves to smooth the trigger pull. The gun has the PC shield on the left side of the frame.

As to the mass of the spur-less hammer affecting ignition, the mainspring is full power. Neither of my 637PCs has had ignition problems, including some questionable foreign-mfg ammo.
