Ok I ended up with this 638-3 w crimson trace laser grips .It was bought new last year ,the guy couldn't hit squat with it ( his words) so he bought tne laser grips ( still couldn't hit squat) so he read online and decided the barel was out of alignment ( it's not) sent to S&W it was " in spec" i( it is) so I got a screamig deal as he couldn't grasp the idea of if your grip laser is sighted in to POI at25 feet it will not be at POI at 50 feet of 10 feet so he decided it was the gun . My thought was I can easily trade this on an older Smith I have my eyes on at a local dealer here the thing is this gun will shoot I mean I do a little shooting reloading been handgun hunting for 30 years so in know what a good trigger feels like and this one is exceptional .I like this gun and I can't fin a reason to not like it .Its light ,accurate ,rated for +p 38 special .Now yes it has MIM parts and the lock but I can see the practicality of the lock if I had kids in the house ect it could prevent a tragedy but the lock is simple to deal with no problem there .I must admit I was surprised at how good this gun is as I havent even considered a newer revolver but this gun is good and I can't find one thing not to like about it .So talk me into trading it I know there has to be something I don't know or did I just get lucky and get the one newer S&W they got right ,is nickel no is the trigger hammer ect like my older ones no but this gun is slick I don't want to like it I truly don't so talk me into taking it over and tradeing it Monday as I have decided to find a reason not to like it .

They're still making the 638 but if you are looking at an older Smith chances are that model hasn't been made for awhile & will only get harder to find.
