The .45 GAP is not a .45 ACP. They differ mainly in case length as the GAP cartridge case length is shorter than the ACP.

Both cartridges headspace on the case mouth; therefore, the shorter GAP case will not headspace properly in a pistol chambered for the ACP.

I see no reason whatsoever to try to shoot a GAP in an ACP pistol. At the very least it won't be reliable. At the worst, it could cause missfires and jams that you would not want happening if you got into a fire fight with the gun.

Most autopistol rounds are designed to headspace on the case mouth. Because of this, those rounds should only be shot in the firearm that is marked for that caliber of ammunition, otherwise a malfunction at best or a catastrophic failure may occur at worst.

However, the above being said, most semi-auto pistols will headspace on the extractor. Not to say it is safe or recommended at all- but it can work.

If he had a modern .45 ACP revolver, he certainly can shoot the .45 GAP's in it with moonclips safely.

Also, .45 GAP is usually more expensive than .45 ACP.

Frequently see .45 GAP used in moonclipped Model 625 revolvers to perhaps help ejection in competition.

But in semi-autos, no I wouldn't. Like firing .380 in a 9mm Luger, it risks damage to the extractor. Not that it will break every time, but eventually.............?
