Greetings:

Came here for some advice. Went to get a sandwich last night...and my local gun shop is next door. Went into the gun shop while sandwich was being made and found they had a nice 645 for sale. Price was $325 and came with three mags. I would rate the gun at 95%...only a couple of small scuffs to the frames. No box or papers.

Well...I put it on layaway and came here for advice. I have always wanted a 5906 and a 6906...but I found this and am wondering if it is a good deal.

I have done a bit of searching on the web...and have found much praise for the 645. The one question I have is that the 645 I found has a set of standard, non-adjustable white dot sights on it. Most of the pictures I have found of the 645 show a red-insert front site.

The mags have black floor plates and followers. I believe the 645 was only made for three years. Just asking if this is a good deal and are the sights correct?

Thank much...

Congrats. It just sometimes happens that way. At least thats what I tell the wife:D

AWESOME deal! The 645 that I had, had a RR front site and was not a dovetail front. Is yours a dovetailed front? The 645 is a fantastic 45 and that is just a great price!

I thought the price was pretty good. The shop once in a while has some good prices on used guns. I got my Ruger Mark II 5.5" with slab barrel, three mags, LNIB for $285 there too.

My front sight is a white dot dove-tail. Wish it did have the red front insert...but can't complain.

I know that Hogue makes some nice wood replacement grips. I still wish Pachmayr made their replacement grips...maybe I can find an old pair.

Congrats! The 645 is a superb pistol. Mine is an accurate, reliable tack driver. You got a sweet deal, IMO.

The later production 645's had the dovetailed white dot front sight. The earliest production 645's had a black plastic sight insert. This was later changed to the red inserts.

Enjoy your 645! Regards 18DAI.

Just got the 645

Got the cash and picked up the 645 last night. See pics.

After some research today...I believe I purchased a "transitional" 645...right before the went to the 4506.

The 645 has the wrap around grips...rather than the typical panal grips. Also has the three-dot, dovetail sights which I believe were on the early 4506's.

Just a quick question...would the Hogue grips for the 4506 fit this model?

The guy at the shop last night when I got it looked this over and said, " I think you got a hell of a deal on this." He looked the 645 over and really questioned if it had ever been shot. If so, very, very little.

I am in the middle of a crappy divorce...so I told him..."well, God smiles on everyone once in a while."

yep- 'transitional' 4506- everything 4506 will work for that gun. It's basically a 4506 with 645 stamped on the frame.
On another note- you did well on the price, and I can't believe you walked into a gunshop and found that gun! I've been watching online for one of those for a year!

Very interesting. I have read about the transitional guns but never have seen one in person. Your pics are pretty good. Now, I prefer the old school look of the high polish frame and slide, so I would be hitting that with flitz until it shines. BTW, very nice gun!

well hell my LGS has a 645 and it is marked 499.95.....dam good deal you got, nice find......did you even get to eat your sandwitch

Great looking gun, I've got a 4506 no dash that looks exactly like it. It is a really good shooter. I think you will like it, the long sight and nice trigger pull. Great price also.
Have fun shooting it.

Nice 645 especially at that price! It's quite a bit different than my early production 645 which came with a red ramp front sight, white outline rear sight, allen screw on the ambidextrous safety and magazines with metal floorplates and followers.

Very cool...so I basically have a 4506...nothing wrong with that!

Yes, I did get to go home and eat my cheese steak that night. Funny thing, while I was eating, I was having thoughts of going back to the shop in the morning to get my depost back...as I was/am cash strapped right now.

I posted a pic below of the receipt...I wonder what the guy who came in with it got for it at the shop?

Ha you lucky Dog, You bought the best of both worlds; the square trigger guard (645) and the 3rd gen grips (4506). Take good care of her!

That is a great looking piece.

It truly does look like it's been sitting idle somewhere since it was made.

Great find.

Sorry about the divorce....but things will work out in the future.

You gotta love having a great sandwich shop right next door to your gun shop. That is awesome.

This was a great find...and have to believe it was just a reminder that good things do come your way every once in a while...even when everything else seems to suck!

I am busy this weekend with kids...so won't get to the range till sometime next week. But will report back once I get some shooting in.

I am five minutes from a very small shopping area (about six stores). One is my sandwich/pizza shop, the gun shop, and right next door is the beer distributor (here in PA you can only buy cases of beer from a distributor...stupid law). What else could you ask for...beer, pizza and guns...a man's dream come true!

Well, got to the range yesterday....and to say that I am in love with this 645...aka 4506...would be an understatement.

It is a dream to shoot and damn accurate when I do my part. No problem shooting tight groups at 10 and 15 yards.

Ate everything I ran through it...Federal 230 Ball, 230+P HST's and some Gold Dot 200g.

Handled the +p loads with no problem and the size and the weight of the 645 really made recoil not much of an issue.
