I know the 4506 was the "Improvement" over the 645. However, am I the only that prefers the feel and looks of the 645 over the 4506?

Model 645

I like the Model 645 over the Model 4506, because of the full frame. It also gives one the option of different types of grips. I have two Model 645's one of which I had custom built, adding a Model 4516 top end to it. I also like the double action style over the traditional single action (cocked and locked) 1911's for carrying.

4506 hands down. Had a 645 and still own a 4566, which is a 4506 with a shorter barrel. The 645 would digest anything you stuffed in the mag, including empties. The 4566 feels noticeably better in my hand and kept the reliability. The 645 didn't have the Novak sights either, but a non-dovetailed ramp front sight. Both are quality firearms, but the 3rd gen changes were noticeable and definite improvements.

I prefer the grip of my 645 with the Pachmyars on it. I eventually will get Novaks to undercut the grip frame under the trigger guard. I prefer that aspect of my 4506's grip. Makes the gun sit better in my hand.

Aesthetically I'm torn. My 645 is a beautiful handgun, so are my adjustable sight 4506-1's.

Reliability and accuracy is a wash, for me. My 645 and 4506-1's are bet your life reliable tack drivers. Regards 18DAI

Edited to add: What I really want is Model39's black 645! ;) :)

I have two 645's, and have not bothered to get a 4506. One can polish the trigger bar (and area in the frame) on a 645 to smooth out the trigger to 4506 levels. I prefer the looks of the 645. I prefer the Novak's on a 4506 over the S&W sights on a 645 (though easily modified by one that can mill the front sight dovetail).

645 hands down for me. I prefer the grips and grip angle, the polished slide and frame. I just picked up another. Got a 4506-1 too, but I prefer the 645.

I don't currently have a 645, but I miss the one I had. I saw a two-tone one for sale in WA a while back and wanted it so bad I could taste it, but I was about 45 mninutes too late.
I would say go with whichever one you see first and is in good shape. 4506/645 not terribly important, they are both amazing pistols.

Hey Bob,

Let me know what you decide on that 4506.
