A local gunshop received some Texas Department of Corrections trade in guns. The rattiest one also had the TDCJ property sticker attached, reflecting the department's name change to the more politically correct "Texas Department of Criminal Justice" a few years back.

It was just too ugly to pass up and now ranks as the ugliest S&W I own. Ya me.

Cool find! I would have bought that without a second thought as well. Are those grips painted black or are they just really dark?

As long as it shoots where you're pointing, it's a great gun. I too would have opened my wallet on the spot unless the price was just outrageous.

Those grips are just naturally filthy and worn. There are some numbers painted on the butt in what appears to be whiteout, and a goodly chunk missing missing out of the heal of each at the backstrap.

Most had Pachmayrs. Only a four with wood grips. I only looked at the four and this was the only one of them with the TDCJ sticker. The gun is tight, for all its dings, dents and scratches.

I thought the price fair, but no bargain at under $500.00.

An hour with a grey Scotchbrite pad will dramatically change its appearance. This S&W 64-2 had rust all over it, being in a box covered with rusty guns in a LE evidence room.
