I just picked up a used 65-5. Looks good but after cleaning it some and inspecting it closely i notice that once the cylinder is slightly opened it does not swing down under gravity. there is a little resistance in the system. If it remove the yoke screw it will swing open under gravity. Looking at it all it has the spring plunger yoke screw. The yoke looks good but can clearly see a shiny track where the yoke screw rubs along it.Is this all normal or is the yoke screw putting too much pressure on the yoke?

Is the plunger free ? Can you push it in and it releases ?

Yes it does compress, spring is pretty stiff but it will compress back into itself. The yoke does open all the way with the yoke screw tightend all the way. It is not really "binding". But it is putting enough pressure on it that the cylinder does not move as smoothly as i think it should. Once the cylinder is free from the initial latch mechanism it still wont fall from gravity to open.

Is it clean and polished ? I'm not sure my 617 falls open either I'll have to check.

I might take the plunger out of the screw and clean and grease to be sure that's not the issue ?

Make sure the plunger is moving freely and not binding. Make sure the spring is the correct one and not an incorrect substitute.

Make sure the slot in the Yoke is aligned with the point of the screw. I have seem them a bit off from time to time. Sometimes relieving the area of resistance with a stone will smooth things up - do not get over zealous and remove a lot of material! You do not want "slop" or play.
