651 MRF PROBLEM

I have a Model 651 4" stainless 22 MRF w/11780 S A14. I have had it since 1983. The Trigger has a chip on it, that will not allow the trigger to fully return for the next shot. With a
slight touch to the rear of the trigger the next shot can be fired.

Can a replacement trigger be installed? There are no
gunsmiths living in my area of TN. I use this as my Snake Killer.

I, too, have used my 651 for snakes and for other purposes in the open field, and while the report is louder than any .22 LR, my ears have never been left ringing as many others on this Forum have complained. So, I'm curious as to whether you find the report of your 651 too loud to use in the open without hearing protection.

HELLO RAMS: I don't have any problems with shooting my 651 or my
AMT automag without ear plugs. Its kinda hard to hear a RATTLER WITH Your ears pluged. And I use 50gr. JHP AMMO.

Have you had it apart and done anything to lighten the trigger pull? Something like cutting a coil or two off the rebound spring specifically? A shortened or too light rebound spring is almost always the reason the trigger will not recover fully without a slight push. Try installing a new standard rebound spring first. Call S&W at 800-331-0852 and order one.

I have only been working on S&W revolvers for 50 years, and cannot imagine a "chip" anywhere on the trigger that would have any effect on trigger recovery.
