TNFrank,

Here is a quality piece that few have ever had the pleasure of handling or shooting. This gun is truely a work of art.

John

I do remember saying that my M27's were the exception. They ARE truly works of art and craftsmanship. ;)
Also, I totally forgot to add the 686+, 2.5" to my list. Had to order it in to the local Pawn Shop so I paid full price for it, no deals like I'd normally get. It was $450 out the door and that was in the mid-'90's.

I was at a local shop this last week and bought a 66-1 NIB for $560. It has a 2 1/2" barrel couldn't get my cash out fast enough. I shop around and go to many gun shops and all revolvhes have jumped at least $ 100. in the last year or two. Hey sig lover stop by dunkin donuts in Exeter Nh in the eary morning and take a look at some of sigs best LOL.

I just picked up a 66-2, 2.5 inch from 1986 that looked unfired for 500.00 (no box) as a second carry gun and I love it. The first time I shot it I had clover leaf groups off a rest at 20' and off-hand double action had 18 rounds with nothing outside the 8 ring. Then just for s**ts and giggles was easily busting clay pigeons off-hand lying in the backstop at 60+ feet. I don't think you can ask for much more than that.

The 226 I posted above is a replacement gun for the original Sig I had. After 500 rounds the frame rails separated from the frame. They replaced the gun under warranty, but I don't trust it enough to carry for self defense. Makes a fine range gun though.
Only Sig I own, and the last.

ladder13,

Yes a registered magnum. The reg. mag is a different gun than the 27. I have had some 27's, and have a 627-0 also.

The registered magnum is a work of art inside and out. You must truely own one and shoot it to fully appriciate it. Mine was a ex police dept. gun and showed wear. BUT it shot like a work of art. You just couldn't miss with it. It was smooth as silk. Everything on the inside was machined, no stanpings or MIM, and polished. Very few tooling marks on the inside.

That is one gun I do regret selling, but I am a shooter and not a collector. The person who bought it from me is a collector. I just felt it was better off with him than me. I am not as knowledgable as most here and I did not want to make a mistake with a work of art that can't be repaired.

I am NOT a S&W collector, but I know quality when I see it. The reg. mag. the best handgun I have ever shot. That includes the many bottom feeders that my friends have let me shoot to try and get me to convert to the plastic guns. That includes cheap 1911's and SIGs, Glocks, Berettas, HK's etc. I do love a good semi auto though. I inherited a 1925 Colt government model 1911A1, C prefix. And a Kimber CST which I bought from a forum member here.
I own Rugers too. But when I want a quality handgun I buy a S&W, an older one!

John;)

Man, S&W 65's & 66's just are expensive around here.....Ruger "S" series are pricey also... seem's like prices are climbing on Gun Choker also....
but I like K size revolvers...just really never cared for L frame or GP's..i'd rather have a Med size 357 mag revolver and use 38 Spl. as practice ammo and 357 mag for other things...

Ditto. Now that most of the LEO turn-in guns have dried up folks ask and arm and a leg for their revolvers. Same gun that a guy would have been happy to get $300 out of a few years ago has an asking price of $500 now and the guy doesn't have any more into it and if anything he's shot more rounds through it so it should be worth even less.

All I'm saying is that if 3 or 4 armed thugs kicked in your door while you were watching TV would you rather have one of your 6 shot "works of art" or a 15+1 shot "Plastic Fantastic" in your hand to deal with the situation.
I love a nice S&W revolver as much as the next guy but there's a point where Practical wins out over Beautiful.
I'll take the Sig P226 any day over any of those nice looking revolvers in a combat situation. Better yet, give me a P229, 40cal, that way I've got power and capacity.

In that case neither, I'd have a shotgun loaded with buckshot.

Well heck, if we're going to play like that then give me an H&K MP5.:D
I'm just saying, between the TWO choices, 6 shot revolver or 12+1 shot 40cal semi which would you rather have in a SHTF situation?

1. If you live in a neighborhood that is that rough you ought to have a enough brains to move out!

2. I'll take my S&W if given the two choices, BUT ladder13 gave the CORRECT answer.

3. Let's face it TNFrank, you have the spray and pray mentality that has been made popular by Hollywood. With a mindset like that you will more than likely have collateral damage and YOU will be responsible.

If you want to argue go to one of your other forums. If you want to learn, then listen.
Like the farmer said "you ain't learnin nothing with your mouth a flappin".

As I previously posted, I don't want an unreliable Sig for self-defense.

Chuck, remember they aren't making any more of them. Ask yourself, when was the last time prices on any quality handgun go down? IMHO, $550.00 is the top end of sane(?) pricing, so the question is how much do you want it? As others have suggested make a fair offer and go from there.

Let's see the pictures when you get it...

Man oh man, this thread surely did evolve into something different from what the OP started with.

1. If you live in a neighborhood that is that rough you ought to have a enough brains to move out!
I live in a rural area but even when I lived in Phoenix,AZ I still packed a revolver most of the time because I KNOW how to shoot.

3. Let's face it TNFrank, you have the spray and pray mentality that has been made popular by Hollywood. With a mindset like that you will more than likely have collateral damage and YOU will be responsible.
Once again, you're making an assumption about me without even know anything about me. My first handgun, that I actually carried for SD was a '58 Remington Cap n' Ball copy. I got it because at the time I was only 18 and couldn't legally buy a ctg. handgun. When I worked for Wells & Fargo Armored we were issued M64's, mine was a *** so I carried my M13 S&W Revolver. At qualifications I scored an average of 96%(70% is passing) so again, you have no idea what you're talking about with regards to my shooting ability. Given that I'd feel better with MORE rounds, not less.

Not a Troll at all John, I simply don't agree with you. Not everyone will have the same opinion on a subject, that doesn't make them a Troll, it makes them different.
I've probably owned more S&W revolvers then any other handgun. Loved all of em' but I'm not so prejudice as to think they're the "only" handgun worth owning and that all other handguns are junk.
If you want to spend more for a 6 shot revolver then I'd spend for a 12+1 shot semi-auto then by all means spend your money and be happy with what you get. Heck, I'd love to have my S&W M13, 4" back that I owned twice(bought it, sold it then bought it back a couple years later because it was such a nice gun) but I'd not pay more to get it back then I would for the Sig 2340's that Mark at Summit Gun Broker has for sale.
I don't live under a bridge, I don't carry a club and I don't eat goats and people so I'm NOT a Troll. ;)

P.S.
Sorry to have hi-jacked the thread and "taken it south". I'll try not to let it happen again.

If it walks like a duck, if it quacks like a duck and looks like a duck................It must be a duck!!!!!

This my first grab gun...its on my side while at home and by my bedside at night......I have several revolvers 4 being S&W ,2 Charters ,3 Rugers ,1 Dan Wesson.. all are great guns...they have there roles....I have several Semis...1 G20 , 2 Rugers P97 ,P95 , a RIA 1911, and on a lookout for a 40 S&W Semi....

Even though I lean toward revolvers..as my house gun its a P95 Ruger.. reliable ,accurate ,heavy enough to allow quick follow up shots..(important)

I also live in East TN..where most of the time its peaceful ..but now that Methadone , Oxycontin and other drugs have been on the rise also crime is on the increase and these dope heads feel like they are bullet proof.....
Just because you and another poster don't agree don't be so quick to criticize ,and name call....

Also I owned a Sig Pro ..and it sucked ,at least to me.. and it was hard to trade off....I'd rather have a S&W Sigma or even better a P94 in 40 S&W...but see to each there own.... no harm no foul

We can all agree the S&W 66 are fine revolvers..that have a great resale value...very elegant..when compared to my favorite Dan Wesson !!!

Buckeye: I too have a bunch of revolvers -- included a 2 1/2" 66-7 -- I also have a Ruger P95, P90 and a P97. I love the 95 and 97 -- great lines and feel -- and accurate as well. I bought P95s for my adult son and son-in-law as well.

Paid $475 for the 66-7, it was in splendid shape and I suppose I paid a premium for the short barrel.

Since this old (Feb of 2012 had me fooled for a min....) thread is revived, I'll add my recent price paid for a 66-2.

Last week, I bought a 66-2 with a 2.5" barrel, on GB, which is reportedly "only been test fired" for $655.

Many will scoff at that price, and call me a fool, but.....
I let my old 66-5 escape from me....TWICE!

anyway, always preferred the barrel profile of the 66-4 and earlier models over my -5......
So, we can all brag about how cheap 66 prices should be, but...unless you find one locally, you are paying well above 500 in the current market. (from what I have seen)
