All I'm saying is that if 3 or 4 armed thugs kicked in your door while you were watching TV would you rather have one of your 6 shot "works of art" or a 15+1 shot "Plastic Fantastic" in your hand to deal with the situation.
I love a nice S&W revolver as much as the next guy but there's a point where Practical wins out over Beautiful.
I'll take the Sig P226 any day over any of those nice looking revolvers in a combat situation. Better yet, give me a P229, 40cal, that way I've got power and capacity.

As I previously posted, I don't want an unreliable Sig for self-defense.

Chuck, remember they aren't making any more of them. Ask yourself, when was the last time prices on any quality handgun go down? IMHO, $550.00 is the top end of sane(?) pricing, so the question is how much do you want it? As others have suggested make a fair offer and go from there.

I live in a rural area but even when I lived in Phoenix,AZ I still packed a revolver most of the time because I KNOW how to shoot.

Once again, you're making an assumption about me without even know anything about me. My first handgun, that I actually carried for SD was a '58 Remington Cap n' Ball copy. I got it because at the time I was only 18 and couldn't legally buy a ctg. handgun. When I worked for Wells & Fargo Armored we were issued M64's, mine was a *** so I carried my M13 S&W Revolver. At qualifications I scored an average of 96%(70% is passing) so again, you have no idea what you're talking about with regards to my shooting ability. Given that I'd feel better with MORE rounds, not less.

Not a Troll at all John, I simply don't agree with you. Not everyone will have the same opinion on a subject, that doesn't make them a Troll, it makes them different.
I've probably owned more S&W revolvers then any other handgun. Loved all of em' but I'm not so prejudice as to think they're the "only" handgun worth owning and that all other handguns are junk.
If you want to spend more for a 6 shot revolver then I'd spend for a 12+1 shot semi-auto then by all means spend your money and be happy with what you get. Heck, I'd love to have my S&W M13, 4" back that I owned twice(bought it, sold it then bought it back a couple years later because it was such a nice gun) but I'd not pay more to get it back then I would for the Sig 2340's that Mark at Summit Gun Broker has for sale.
I don't live under a bridge, I don't carry a club and I don't eat goats and people so I'm NOT a Troll.

This my first grab gun...its on my side while at home and by my bedside at night......I have several revolvers 4 being S&W ,2 Charters ,3 Rugers ,1 Dan Wesson.. all are great guns...they have there roles....I have several Semis...1 G20 , 2 Rugers P97 ,P95 , a RIA 1911, and on a lookout for a 40 S&W Semi....

Even though I lean toward revolvers..as my house gun its a P95 Ruger.. reliable ,accurate ,heavy enough to allow quick follow up shots..(important)

I also live in East TN..where most of the time its peaceful ..but now that Methadone , Oxycontin and other drugs have been on the rise also crime is on the increase and these dope heads feel like they are bullet proof.....
Just because you and another poster don't agree don't be so quick to criticize ,and name call....

Also I owned a Sig Pro ..and it sucked ,at least to me.. and it was hard to trade off....I'd rather have a S&W Sigma or even better a P94 in 40 S&W...but see to each there own.... no harm no foul

We can all agree the S&W 66 are fine revolvers..that have a great resale value...very elegant..when compared to my favorite Dan Wesson !!!

Buckeye: I too have a bunch of revolvers -- included a 2 1/2" 66-7 -- I also have a Ruger P95, P90 and a P97. I love the 95 and 97 -- great lines and feel -- and accurate as well. I bought P95s for my adult son and son-in-law as well.

Paid $475 for the 66-7, it was in splendid shape and I suppose I paid a premium for the short barrel.

Since this old (Feb of 2012 had me fooled for a min....) thread is revived, I'll add my recent price paid for a 66-2.

Last week, I bought a 66-2 with a 2.5" barrel, on GB, which is reportedly "only been test fired" for $655.

Many will scoff at that price, and call me a fool, but.....
I let my old 66-5 escape from me....TWICE!

anyway, always preferred the barrel profile of the 66-4 and earlier models over my -5......
So, we can all brag about how cheap 66 prices should be, but...unless you find one locally, you are paying well above 500 in the current market. (from what I have seen)
