There are a fair number of 66-7s coming on the market. Most seem to be Australian LE trade-ins with the usual "carried a lot, shot a little" disclaimer. They have the advantages of the later K frames, such as a beefier fame, and the disadvantages, such as the IL. I'm interested in their accuracy potential. They have the two-piece barrel that has the potential to be extremely accurate, but can also be twitchy if not installed properly at the factory. Anyone had any experience with the 66-7?

Thanks, Will

Hi Stillwater,

IMO they want too much for those 66-7's. You could find a better 66 (66-2 thru 66-4) for less. Just sayin. Regards 18DAI.

I have a 66-7 4" which I bought new just about the time that S&W was discontinuing the model. I bought it to use for IDPA SSR competition, and used it for that purpose for several years. Great gun, no problems. Aesthetically it isn't quite as pleasing as the earlier models without the IL and with the older style barrels, but from a purely functional standpoint there's not a thing wrong with it, accurate, decent trigger, good balance, rugged.
