I came across a 66nd snubby, did my usual inspection on it and bought it. Now I've realized the trigger has probably been swapped because it is a case harden target trigger.

My question is, is this a big deal if I want to get it swapped back to its original format?

I really don't mind having a target trigger on it, but it not being the correct finish and fact that I missed I bugs me.

I found these M stamps under the stocks. I doubt the factory would have installed a case hardened target trigger in it, but I have heard these stamps are sometime used to indicate the revolver has been modified.

Am I reading too much into it?

Those are assembler, fitter or inspector's stamps. The M indicating a modification were on the yoke cutout with the early 580/680 series L frames, in which the hammer nose and bushing were replaced.
