Anyone ever had any luck putting a scope on a 681? I have my first service revolver and its my baby. My problem is my eyes are going and I can't focus thru the fixed sights anymore. I really want to put a scope on it so I can continue to hunt with it. With no adjustable sights to remove and use for scope mounts I'm at a loss.

I just removed a Weaver scope and mount from a Model 53, this mount used the rear t slot for the elevation screw on the frame which your 681 will not have and a U shaped front mount that tighten on the sides of the barrel you would not have drill & tapthe top strap, this would work I think on yours if you could get a slot milled in the rear of your top strap like the adjustable models have, other than this I dont know what you would do on a 681. The mount I removed had nothing other than Weaver on it. Jeff

I know this is the "easy" answer, but leave the 681 as is and get a new 4" 686+ that is already drilled and tapped for S&W scope mounts.

Here's my 586 with a Tasco Pro Point mounted on it. The mount is just mounted to the barrel not the frame. I got it from Denny's Shooters Supply years ago but I don't remember the brand. It's low enough so if I remove the Pro Point I can sight right over it with the iron sights. Sorry the pic isn't better but I don't have any good lighting.
