681 REBUILD (IT'S DONE)

Thank-you very much for the nice words, always been good with tools, but have one heck of a time typing and taking photo's. Hard to put the words together to get a point across, most time "T's" someone off

Chuck does yours have the ports in the top of the barrel? Plus it has a stainless cylinder, I bet it is one of these.

Mine doesn't have the ports and has a Ti cylinder.

Well I guess it could be one of those except it has a much earlier square butt frame and no barrel ports. The cylinder is stainless and while not cut for clips, there are 7 holes. No trigger stop, and the finish is std. satin, not blasted.

By the way you talk someone else built it, very nice gun. I went with the Ti cylinder to cut weight. Enjoy yours - no one else has one like it

Here is the target from today at the range. This is a 50 ft. target shot at about 24 yrds. Not bad for open sights.

where did you get the barrel for this swap? i've been noticing them alot here lately. can you order from smith and wesson?

Not to completely drift off topic, but are projects such as these (barrel-swaps) do-able with specific hand tools?

Are there any good 'tutorials' on-line or otherwise that could point me into the right direction? I'm contemplating a barrel swap project, and would like to get familiar with the process before committing to going ahead with it.

I'd be more inclined to take on a project such as this if it was accomplish-able with a simple workshop...

many thanks,

If you don't know anything about it, you need to get Jerry's book and read it first. Most of the time you can get by with hand tools, but you need to have access to a machine shop just in case. Gander Montain Smiths are good and will help you, BUT READ THE BOOK FIRST.

John,

Many thanks for the quick reply.

That book is on my things of 'to-get's; I'll start by doing that. I've been meaning to get one for a while...

Thanks again.

GF I used the stock hammer spring and a aftermarket return spring. It has a 9 pound double action trigger pull.
