I came across a 686-1 2 1/2" Distinguished Combat Magnum, Serial# AWP7xxx in pretty much pristine condition. There is no box or paperwork.

The seller wants $650. Is that price high or about right?

Also, based on the serial number, when was the gun manufactured?

Thanks.

AWP should be July 1987. The price sounds a little high. I'd offer $550 and see where it goes. You'll have to decide how bad you want it. They are fine guns.

Thanks for the advice. All my other Smiths have the box and papers. Even though I'd prefer it to have all the factory goodies, I'm going to be using it as my primary carry gun so it's not really that important.

And an excellent carry gun it would be. Some Smiths are for collecting and some are just great tools that you can bet your life on.

I just picked up a 686 2-1/2" in primo shape in trade for a LNIB M&P40 & some ammo, I'd value my trade at about $500...I was happy with the deal :)

Well, I just purchased the aforementioned 686-1. We met half way at $600. Attached are a couple of photos.

686

Nice grab, I would pay $600 all day long for a 2.5" 686 pre lock with FGC grips. Enjoy!!
