I traded two guns in today and ordered a 3" version 686+. I was thinking about a 2.5" but like the idea of a full size ejector. It should be here in a few days. Those who have a 686+ what is your barrel preference?

Have both 2.5 and 3 inch 686s. The 3 is in my carry rotation because I simply shoot it better. It ejects better also, and I do carry speed loaders, but that's not why I carry it.

I carry my 3in 686+. Yeah, its a bit heavier but really not a problem with a gun belt and decent holster. It is a fantastic shooter.

My wife likes my 3".

As for my 686+, for a gun that large and heavy, I figured I might as well go with 3" if I ever carry it. 4" is too long for me to carry except as a BBQ gun. Plus, I just like the looks of a 3" revolver.

Love mine! I carry a J most of the time, but my 3" 686+ is my trail/woods gun. Shots well and handles any thing I put in it.

I'm a buck 30 wet, but with a descent belt & holster it carries well in an IWB, big and heavy as it is.

Picked it up today, nicer than I thought it would be. Trigger is decent. I was thinking about Adrends tactical grips. I assume these are two piece barrels.
Which models have the two piece that look like two piece at the muzzle end? 69? Shop owner ordered some S&W .44 version and when it came in the guy who ordered it flipped out, said it was defected, and made them send it back.

An Alternative Snub .357

Already having two 4in 686NDs, I filled my need for a shorter/snubby barrel with a N-Frame 627PC with a 2.625in barrel. I found the 8-shot 627PC to be 0.5oz lighter than my 4in 6-shot 686 both fully loaded. Plus the 627PC snub was only ~100fps slower than my 4in 686.

And I have 8-shots instead of 6-shots! :D:cool: Gotta love it... ;)

I bought the 4" barrel because I thought that I might carry it someday, I usually go for the longer barrels. the carry is yet to happen, but at 4" it is also a good range gun.

I got a 5" bbl. Just right for my preference. Not looking to carry.

I have the 3" and 5" in 3-5-7 686+. Love them both. I did however have to inspect each and had to turn away the first couple because of canted barrels.

On the odd chance I would carry the 3" for concealed carry, it would ride in a shoulder holster. Having carried it in a paddle holster a couple times, one gets spoiled with the weight of polymers.
