I just bought one exactly like yours this past march and paid $600 out the door.

With that said...your gun will be worth what ever a prospective buyer is willing to pay.
When I first set out to find me a 686-4, I set a target price of $525. in my head and I set an absolute limit of $550., not a penny more. But when I saw that this one was in such great cond. and was still "like new" because the previous owner hadn't shot it much, I decided the extra fifty dollars was worth it to me.

Hope this helps....

Nice gun. I have two 6 inchers and will be adding a four inch to them when I find one.

I just paid $650 for one like yours ( I posted pics in the thread 686-4 4" a couple days ago) in NJ and I was happy about it. I had a real hard time finding one.

Unfortunately 686's like the one you picture are running very high. New ones(which can't touch a -4 in workmanship) are in the mid $900.00 range suggested retail. It's not unusual to see a nice 686 prelock run between $650 and $750 in my area and they don't sit in the dealers case even at those high prices.

I also have a 686 4" that I bought brand new in 1987 when I was with the local Police department. I had it as a duty weapon for awhile before we switched over to 9 mm. Mine has the original wooden grips and has only been fired 300-500 rounds at most.

It's been in my bedside table for years and I haven't fired it in years. I'm glad I found this post because I was wondering what the value would be on it. Seems like i've gone 9mm crazy for the last year or so. It's one of the most accurate and well made guns i've ever owned.

I too have a 686-4 4" with factory rubbers. Man have they ever increaced in value since I bought mine!! Excellent wheel gun ~ everybody should have one.

the S&W model 686-4 is one fine .357 magnum revolver. just enjoy it and don't worry about how much it is worth. if you part with it, you will be sorry for a long time.

i have a 686-4PP and it will be around longer than i will.
