Hello all, new to forum.

I've got a 686-4, pre lock, 7 shot, 4" barrel, .357 magnum that I'm considering selling, and was hoping someone could give me some insight on what it could be worth. I have attached a photo.

I have a friend who has offered me $450 for it, but I just feel like it's worth more than that. I bought the gun new around the 1995/1996 timeframe. It doesn't have a blemish on it and functions flawlessly. It has a pretty low round count - probably 250 rounds of .38s, and probably 100 rounds of .357. I think it has a forged trigger and hammer and it has the firing pin on the hammer itself.

I'm by no means an expert on this gun so you all probably know a lot more about this gun than I do. Any thoughts on the particulars of this gun and it might be worth would be appreciated.

Thanks,
LT

Locally that 686-4+ 4" would bring $650. I would not let mine go for that though.

Look at what the asking prices are for the new ones with the hole in the side. I think you might regret letting that one get away. Good luck! Regards 18DAI.

If at all possible DON'T Sell it. Unless you desperately need the money. Keep it. As 18DAI said, I'm pretty sure the day will come where you will regret doing it.
JMHO,
Tom

Keep it. They are a rare breed. Whatever you get for it, one day it won't be enough.

my comment

I would not sell this gun. I think you will regret selling it today, at any price. If you need money, ask $ 800 and do not come off any on the price. My 2 cents worth.

I have tracks and charts on two versions of the 686 Plus revolver. The most pricey is the Mountain the next most pricey is the 2-1/2 inch barrel version. I'm thinking the four inch version value might be very close to the 2-1/2 inch version. Maybe a little less, all other things being equal, especially if you don't have box, tools, or papers that came with the gun. A little more because it's a no lock.

If you want a real nice revolver and you enjoy shooting, I agree you should keep it. If you do sell it, I'd look at around $580 and $610.

Hope this helps

If it were mine, I would keep it. I sure wouldn't let it go for less than $550. I've got three 686-4s. One is a 4-inch 6 shot and two are consecutive serial numbered 6-inch 7 shots. Don't plan on selling them anytime soon.

Thanks for all the replies. I've had this gun a long time and really don't want to sell it, but I've recently bought two others and I need to decide which ones to keep since I can't keep them all.

UNLESS you need $$$ desperately, I would keep and enjoy owning/shooting that 686. Othewise, you will be SORRY ! ! In any event, check GB. You need to spend $700+ for a nice one.......

That graph is off the charts....shoot it or keep it as a safe queen........

The 686-4 + is going to be one of those grail guns just like the 3" model 65 and the model 58. It is the only gun that combines all the best features of the 686 series and is the high point of DA service revolver evolution.

"Professor Honeydew" ??
C'mon........

Just got my first S&W a 686-4+ 2.5"....it's sweet.

Originally wanted the 4" but got tired of looking...I agree don't sell if you don't have too, this model has all the right goodies built into it.

But if you do it's worth $600 plus in my world.
