686 Barrel

I have a 686-3 snub. I don't find the short barrel on such a heavy revolver to be very useful. I have considered trading it or perhaps having a 4" barrel put on it. How hard is it to find such a barrel or perhaps trade the snub barrel for the 4"? I guess a longer ejector rod would be needed also...Thanks for any thoughts on this.

S&W has all the parts to change the barrel. You could just call them and have them switch it for you.

Thank you 500 Magnum Nut. I suspected that might be the case. I was going to trade the 686 but if I have it re-barreled, it would be a definite keeper. I would then have a 4" 686 round butt similar to the CS-1 I had years ago and foolishly traded. That info was very helpful.
